| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Southern Illinois | ||||||
| 4 | Chapter of the American Guild of Organists on the occasion of | ||||||
| 5 | its 40th anniversary; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The mission of the American Guild of Organists is | ||||||
| 7 | to foster a thriving community of musicians who share their | ||||||
| 8 | knowledge and inspire passion for the organ; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, To further this mission, local chapters of the | ||||||
| 10 | organization were formed across the country; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, On June 6, 1983, the Southern Illinois Chapter of | ||||||
| 12 | the American Guild of Organists was re-established by Marianne | ||||||
| 13 | Webb and fellow organists in southern Illinois; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Since that time, the membership area of the | ||||||
| 15 | chapter has expanded to include southeastern Missouri and | ||||||
| 16 | northwestern Kentucky; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, For 40 years, the chapter's mission has been to | ||||||
| 18 | provide interest in future organists, to promote the hearing | ||||||
| 19 | and playing of organ music, and to continually build a | ||||||
| 20 | community of people interested in organ playing and choral | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | conducting; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The chapter meets its mission by hosting recitals | ||||||
| 3 | and hymn festivals, providing scholarships to students | ||||||
| 4 | interested in studying the organ, providing workshops for | ||||||
| 5 | chapter members, and participating in community arts events; | ||||||
| 6 | and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the | ||||||
| 8 | chapter and in memory of the legacy of the founding member, | ||||||
| 9 | Marianne Webb, former students of hers are leading a hymn | ||||||
| 10 | festival at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Carbondale on | ||||||
| 11 | February 19, 2023; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 13 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 14 | we join in celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Southern | ||||||
| 15 | Illinois Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, and we | ||||||
| 16 | wish continued success to the chapter as it trains the next | ||||||
| 17 | generation; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the Southern Illinois Chapter of the American | ||||||
| 20 | Guild of Organists as an expression of our esteem and respect.
