2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives with to congratulate Lorena Jones on the |
4 | | occasion of her retirement; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Lorena Jones was born in Coatopa, Alabama in |
6 | | 1959; her parents moved to Waukegan, Illinois in the early |
7 | | 1960s; living with her three brothers and two sisters, there |
8 | | was never a dull day; by the time she was in fifth grade, her |
9 | | parents purchased the family's first home on Elizabeth Street |
10 | | in Waukegan; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Lorena Jones graduated from Waukegan West High |
12 | | School in 1978 and later from the College of Lake County with |
13 | | an Associate Degree in Applied Science; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Lorena Jones's first job was at Kemper Insurance |
15 | | Company in Long Grove until 1981 when she enlisted in the U.S. |
16 | | Army; she graduated from basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, |
17 | | Missouri and completed Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at |
18 | | Fort Lee, Virginia as a 76C Equipment Records and Parts |
19 | | Specialist; in August of 1981, she reported to her first |
20 | | assignment overseas at Fenton Army Air Field in Wiesbaden, |
21 | | Germany and later to Fort Campbell in Kentucky; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Lorena Jones is a veteran of Operations Desert |
2 | | Shield and Desert Storm; she earned numerous awards and honors |
3 | | throughout her military career, including the Army Achievement |
4 | | Medal, three Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service |
5 | | Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development |
6 | | Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, three Overseas Service |
7 | | Ribbons, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star, |
8 | | the Expert Marksmanship Badge Rifle, and the Sharp Shooter |
9 | | Marksmanship Badge; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Upon Lorena Jones' discharge from the Army, she |
11 | | continued to serve her country in various Federal agencies, |
12 | | including the Defense Commissary Agency in Fort Sheridan and |
13 | | the Defense Health Agency under the Department of Defense; she |
14 | | also worked for the Department of Navy and the Department of |
15 | | Veterans Affairs, culminating in 42 years of service to the |
16 | | government of the United States of America; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Lorena Jones has been a member of many veteran |
18 | | and service organizations; she was a part of the American |
19 | | Legion Post 0867 for 25 years, Chapter #16 Disabled American |
20 | | Veterans for over 20 years, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars |
21 | | (VFW) North Shore Post 4737 for 4 years; she has been a |
22 | | faithful member of First Baptist Church of Lake Forest for |
23 | | over 30 years and has served as church secretary, a member of |
24 | | the church choir, and a trustee; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Lorena Jones was married for over 25 years to her |
2 | | husband John, and she has three children, Rasche Hill, John |
3 | | Jr., and Shenna Hill and three grandchildren, Jaden Hill, |
4 | | Nathaniel Blake, and Savannah Blake; therefore, be it
|
5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
6 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
7 | | we congratulate Lorena Jones on her retirement; and be it |
8 | | further

9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
10 | | presented to Lorena Jones as an expression of our esteem and |
11 | | respect.
