2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Murtie |
4 | | Mae Myers of Chicago, who passed away on January 12, 2023; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Murtie Mae Myers was born to JT Allen and Lucille |
6 | | Allen in Macon, Mississippi on December 5, 1928; she relocated |
7 | | to the South Side of Chicago in 1940, where she remained for 19 |
8 | | years; she attended Manley Military School in Chicago, where |
9 | | she learned how to sew and make hats, which she eventually |
10 | | mastered and loved doing; she married Archie D. Myers; she |
11 | | then moved to the West Side, where she lived for the next 63 |
12 | | years; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, After completing her education, Murtie Mae Myers |
14 | | began working at the top retail stores in Chicago, including |
15 | | Saks Fifth Avenue and Sears; she loved working at these stores |
16 | | because she had a special eye for fashion; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Murtie Mae Myers committed to her faith at an |
18 | | early age; she attended Greater White Stone M.B. Church on |
19 | | Chicago's West Side for many years; she was also a member of |
20 | | Faith Community Church; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Murtie Mae Myers was known for her ability to |

1 | | dress to impress; she also loved dancing and cooking, and her |
2 | | special dishes were greens, chicken, and her marquee pound |
3 | | cake; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Murtie Mae Myers was preceded in death by her |
5 | | husband; her uncle, Will Allen; her brother, John Allen; and |
6 | | her daughter, Conchitta Myers; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Murtie Mae Myers is survived by her children, |
8 | | LueAnn, Edie (Melvin), Archie (Dorothy), Darlene (the late |
9 | | Eddie), Vennay, and Stanley (the late Gloria); her special |
10 | | nephew, Ricky Allen; her first cousins, Gene Allen, James |
11 | | Allen, and Roy Allen; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, |
12 | | and great-great-grandchildren; her cousins; and a host of |
13 | | family and friends; therefore, be it
|
14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
15 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
16 | | we mourn the passing of Murtie Mae Myers and extend our sincere |
17 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
18 | | her; and be it further

19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
20 | | presented to the family of Murtie Mae Myers as an expression of |
21 | | our deepest sympathy.
