SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 2.5 new

    Proposes to amend the Legislature Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that a person may not be elected to the office of State Senator or State Representative for terms totaling more than 12 years in each house or a combined total of 24 years in both houses. Provides that service prior to the date of the adoption of the amendment shall be considered in the calculation of a person's service. Provides that any person in office at the time of the adoption of the amendment who exceeds the specified term limitation shall be allowed to complete his or her current term of office. Effective upon being declared adopted.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
5SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption
8of this resolution a proposition to amend Article IV of the
9Illinois Constitution by adding Section 2.5 as follows:

THE LEGISLATURE

12    (ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 2.5 new)
13SECTION 2.5. TERM LIMITS
14    A person may not be elected to the office of State Senator
15or State Representative for terms totaling more than 12 years
16in each house or a combined total of 24 years in both houses.
17Service prior to the date of the adoption of this amendment
18shall be considered in the calculation of a person's service.
19Any person in office at the time of the adoption of this
20amendment who exceeds the specified term limitation shall be
21allowed to complete his or her current term of office.

3Constitutional Amendment Act.
