2 | | processes and procedures to improve workplace safety. The |
3 | | Committee shall prepare an annual report on the Department's |
4 | | workplace safety efforts and plans for the future to further |
5 | | promote safety in the workplace. |
6 | | (b) The Director of Corrections shall appoint the |
7 | | non-bargaining unit members of the Safety Committee. The |
8 | | exclusive collective bargaining representative of the majority |
9 | | of Department of Corrections employees shall appoint the |
10 | | bargaining unit members of the Safety Committee. The Director |
11 | | of Corrections shall appoint the chairperson of the Committee. |
12 | | The appointed chairperson of the Committee shall have a |
13 | | professional background and training in an environmental |
14 | | health and safety field. The chairperson of the Safety |
15 | | Committee, or the chairperson's designee, may conduct a |
16 | | workplace safety inspection of any property, equipment, or |
17 | | workplace under the control or supervision of the Department |
18 | | at any time and shall conduct random unannounced inspections |
19 | | as often as deemed necessary. |
20 | | (c) The chairperson of the Safety Committee, or the |
21 | | chairperson's designee, may also investigate training |
22 | | practices for the use of equipment and may direct that |
23 | | alternative trainings be used. The Committee chairperson, or |
24 | | the chairperson's designee, may take any piece of equipment |
25 | | lacking industry standard safeguards out of service. The |
26 | | jurisdiction of the Safety Committee is strictly limited to |
