5 ILCS 490/136 new

    Amends the State Commemorative Dates Act. Provides that December 1 through December 7 of each year is designated as Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Week as a week to encourage awareness of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

1    AN ACT concerning government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The State Commemorative Dates Act is amended by
5adding Section 136 as follows:
 
6    (5 ILCS 490/136 new)
7    Sec. 136. Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Week. December 1
8through December 7 of each year is designated as Crohn's and
9Colitis Awareness Week as a week to invite and encourage all
10people in Illinois to join the effort to find a cure for
11Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, engage in activities
12aimed at raising awareness of Crohn's disease and ulcerative
13colitis among the general public and health care providers,
14promote and support biomedical research needed to find better
15treatments and a cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative
16colitis, encourage media organizations to participate in
17Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Week by helping to educate the
18general public about Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis,
19recognize all people in Illinois living with Crohn's disease
20and ulcerative colitis and express appreciation to the family
21members and caregivers who support them, and commend the
22dedication of health care professionals and biomedical
23researchers who care for patients with Crohn's disease and

1ulcerative colitis and work to advance basic, genetic, and
2clinical research aimed at developing new treatments and a
3cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
