Provides that the State Board of Education shall establish and implement a school time-change grant program to provide grants to school districts to assist with additional costs incurred to change when the school day starts at a school containing any of grades 6 through 12 to on or after 8 a.m. Provides that to be eligible to receive a grant under this program, a school district must change when the school day starts before the 2026-2027 school year. Provides that State Board of Education may adopt any rules necessary to implement these provisions. |

1 | | AN ACT concerning education. |
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 | | represented in the General Assembly: |
4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
5 | | 2-3.204 as follows: |
6 | | (105 ILCS 5/2-3.204 new) |
7 | | Sec. 2-3.204. School time-change grant program. |
8 | | (a) Subject to appropriation, the State Board of Education |
9 | | shall establish and implement a school time-change grant |
10 | | program to provide grants to school districts to assist with |
11 | | additional costs incurred to change when the school day starts |
12 | | at a school containing any of grades 6 through 12 to on or |
13 | | after 8 a.m. |
14 | | (b) To be eligible to receive a grant under this program, a |
15 | | school district must change when the school day starts as |
16 | | provided under subsection (a) before the 2026-2027 school |
17 | | year. |
18 | | (c) The State Board of Education may adopt any rules |
19 | | necessary to implement this Section. |
