Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Defines "pharmacy desert". Requires the Department of Public Health to provide an annual report to the General Assembly by December 31 of each year that identifies the locations of pharmacy deserts within the State and provides information about health issues associated with pharmacy deserts. Provides that if the annual report contains information from the federal government that identifies the locations of pharmacy deserts in the State and provides information on health issues associated with pharmacy deserts, then the requirements of the provisions shall be satisfied. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and |
5 | | Duties Law of the
Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is |
6 | | amended by adding Section 2310-23 as follows: |
7 | | (20 ILCS 2310/2310-23 new) |
8 | | Sec. 2310-23. Tracking pharmacy deserts. The Department |
9 | | shall provide an annual report to the General Assembly by |
10 | | December 31 of each year that identifies the locations of |
11 | | pharmacy deserts within the State and provides information |
12 | | about health issues associated with pharmacy deserts. If the |
13 | | annual report contains information from the federal government |
14 | | that identifies the locations of pharmacy deserts in the State |
15 | | and provides information on health issues associated with |
16 | | pharmacy deserts, then the requirements of this Section shall |
17 | | be satisfied. For the purposes of this Section, "pharmacy |
18 | | desert" means a location vapid of prescription medication |
19 | | retail sales, in part due to a lack of pharmacies, health care |
20 | | facilities, or other physical dispensaries of prescription |
21 | | medication.
