SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Milburn David Cain Sr. of Lake Forest,
4who passed away on December 14, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, David Cain was born to Milburn Calkins "Bill"
6Cain and Katherine Crocker Cain in Libertyville on March 15,
71937; he was raised in Antioch; he earned his Bachelor of
8Science in Business Administration with a specialization in
9Accounting from Northwestern University in 1959; he married
10Sue Stinespring in 1959, and she and their second son,
11Gregory, preceded him in death in a car accident five years
12later while their son, David "Skip" Jr., survived; he later
13married Ethelwyn "Wyn" Hrdina in 1965, and they had a
14daughter, Ann, and a son, Joe; and
 
15    WHEREAS, David Cain was licensed to practice as a CPA in
16both Illinois and Wisconsin; he first worked as a partner with
17Jedele and Cain before working as a partner with Rose,
18Christensen & Cain; he was the sole practitioner of Milburn
19Cain & Co. in Gurnee; he served on numerous committees for the
20Illinois CPA Society and chaired the Local Government
21Committee of the Illinois CPA Society; he altogether practiced
22for 58 years; after he sold his firm in 2017, he continued to
23review for his eldest son's CPA firm in Villa Park; and

1    WHEREAS, David Cain was actively involved in the church,
2local government, and nonprofit and professional
3organizations; he was a founding member of the First National
4Bank of McHenry, a lay leader of the First United Methodist
5Church of McHenry, an elder of the First Presbyterian Church
6of Lake Forest, a longtime member of a church men's group,
7president of the McHenry School District 15 Board of
8Education, an alderman for the City of Lake, president of The
9Grove School Board, president of McHenry Hospital Board during
10its transition to Northern Illinois Medical Center/Centegra,
11and treasurer of the Ralph Smith Foundation; and
 
12    WHEREAS, David Cain's favorite place was his house on
13Pistakee Lake, where he enjoyed spending time with his family
14and grandchildren, completing projects around the house, and
15taking in the views of the lake and the peace and the quiet; he
16also enjoyed reading and making breakfast for his family on
17the weekends; he loved cars, boats, music, and had most
18recently enjoyed driving his treasured 1970 Mercury Cougar
19after having it rebuilt; his favorite trip was his visit to
20Normandy; and
 
21    WHEREAS, David Cain was known for being detailed,
22analytical, and able to fix just about anything; he wore suits
23most days and always had a pen and/or mechanical pencil in his

1shirt pocket; in the fall and winter months, he sported a wool
2tweed flat driving cap; and
 
3    WHEREAS, David Cain was preceded in death by his parents;
4his brothers, Robert and James Cain; his first wife, Sue
5(Stinespring) Cain; and his son, Gregory Cain; and
 
6    WHEREAS, David Cain is survived by his wife of 57 years,
7Wyn; his son, M. David (Donna) Cain Jr., and their children,
8Theresa, Rachel, and Deborah (Conner Houchin) Cain; his
9daughter, Ann Rattin, Mark Rattin, and their children,
10Benjamin Rattin and Daniel Rattin; his son, Joseph Cain,
11Marina Bianchi, their son, Giacomo Cain, and her daughter,
12Altea Bianchi-Bellfort; Joseph's fiancée, Dayna Shaw; his
13brother, Bryan; his sisters-in-law, Margaret Cain, Miriam
14Simmons, and Donna Anding; his nieces and nephews; the Donnell
15family; the Stinespring family; and many other family, church,
16and professional friends; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Milburn David Cain Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to
20his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
