SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Michael J. Dolan of Oak Park, who passed away on March 4, 2022 at the age of 84; and

WHEREAS, Michael Dolan was born in Joliet and raised in Waukegan; he was the oldest of five children; he and his wife of 57 years, Barbara, started their family in Downstate Illinois while attending graduate school at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale; and

WHEREAS, Michael Dolan spent his career as a psychology administrator at multiple correctional facilities throughout the State, beginning in 1971 when he was employed at facilities for juvenile offenders by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS); he later transferred to the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC), specifically the Menard Psychiatric Center, where he designed and implemented group counseling programs; he then transferred to the Dixon Correctional Center in Sterling in 1990, where he established a hospice program for elderly offenders at the center's Health Care Unit; and

WHEREAS, Michael Dolan and Barbara retired to Oak Park in 2004; during this chapter, he was actively involved with the Nineteenth Century Charitable Association and served on numerous in-house committees; and

WHEREAS, Michael Dolan held a passion for acting and theater with humor and expressive faces being his trademarks; he was cast in plays into middle age; he also channeled his inner performer during routine social interactions; and

WHEREAS, Michael Dolan enjoyed reading from many literary genres, including biographies and historical fiction; all the while, he kept up with updates in literature pertinent to his profession; and

WHEREAS, Michael Dolan was known as the family photographer, always carrying his camera to document ordinary and extraordinary moments with his wife, children, and grandchildren; he was also a notable home chef and handled the grocery shopping for his family; and

WHEREAS, Michael Dolan is survived by his children, Shelly (Tim Schaffert), Lynne (Mark Argyilan), and Sean (Hillary) Dolan, and his grandchildren, Margot, Jacob, River, Fiona, and Theo; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Michael J. Dolan and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Michael Dolan as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
