2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Gary Gilbert Lickfett of Danville, who |
4 | | passed away on October 10, 2022; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Gary Lickfett was born to Gilbert and LaVon |
6 | | (Wagner) Lickfett in Glencoe, Minnesota on March 31, 1946; he |
7 | | earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University |
8 | | of Minnesota Morris in 1968; he enlisted in the U.S. Army and |
9 | | completed basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington; he went to |
10 | | advanced individual training as a Social Work/Psychology |
11 | | Specialist at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas and was |
12 | | deployed to the 98th Med Det (KO) Hospital in Da Nang, South |
13 | | Vietnam; he was honorably discharged in June 1971; he married |
14 | | Dorothy Jensen in Glencoe, Minnesota on July 24, 1971; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Gary Lickfett completed his Master of Arts in |
16 | | Experimental Psychology at Hollins College in Roanoke, |
17 | | Virginia in 1972; he then attended Purdue University and |
18 | | completed one year of study towards a Ph.D. in Industrial |
19 | | Psychology and Ergonomics; and |
20 | | WHEREAS, Gary Lickfett began a 33-year career in |
21 | | manufacturing and technical services that included 12 years at |
22 | | Core Lube/Santec near Westville, 18 years at Chem-Cast in |

1 | | Danville, and several years as a manufacturing safety |
2 | | consultant and trainer; while at Core Lube and Chem-Cast, he |
3 | | held a variety of positions related to the production of |
4 | | industrial sand cores; at Core Lube, he was a welder, plumber, |
5 | | and electrician in the machine fabrication shop before |
6 | | transitioning to a role in technical support and customer |
7 | | service; during his time at Chem-Cast, he was manager of Plant |
8 | | Services and then manager of Human Resources; he was |
9 | | responsible for personnel, safety, purchasing, plant |
10 | | engineering, maintenance, and government compliance; he was |
11 | | particularly proud of the early years at Chem-Cast, where he |
12 | | helped plan the building of the physical structure of the new |
13 | | company; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Gary Lickfett served several terms on the Ridge |
15 | | Farm Town Board and belonged to the Ridge Farm Lions Club; he |
16 | | was an active member of St. James United Methodist Church, |
17 | | serving on a variety of church boards and helping teach the |
18 | | Keystone Sunday school class; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Gary Lickfett and Dorothy enjoyed renovating |
20 | | their homes over the years; he had the ability to plan and |
21 | | carry out all types of construction work, whether it was the |
22 | | renovation of their first home in Williamsport, the |
23 | | restoration of their 1867 Victorian home in Ridge Farm, or the |
24 | | additions of a garage, bedrooms, sunporch, and 50 steps down |

1 | | to the water to their Lake Vermilion home in Danville; he was |
2 | | the friend that family members and friends went to for help |
3 | | with home remodeling projects; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Gary Lickfett was a dedicated father, teaching |
5 | | his children a variety of skills through 4-H, home |
6 | | improvement, electrical, and car restoration projects; he |
7 | | coached one of his son's Odyssey of the Mind team for several |
8 | | years, leading the first team from Georgetown-Ridge Farm High |
9 | | School to qualify for the OM World Competition in Maryland in |
10 | | 1997; he loved his grandchildren and enjoyed encouraging their |
11 | | talents and interests; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Gary Lickfett grew up listening to Minnesota |
13 | | polka music and enjoyed many types of music; he began playing |
14 | | trombone in junior high school; as an adult, he acquired a |
15 | | double bell euphonium which he played when performing with the |
16 | | Danville Municipal Band for approximately 30 years and also |
17 | | with the St. James United Methodist Church Orchestra; he sang |
18 | | in the church choir and played with the bell choir; when his |
19 | | grandchildren visited, he was especially happy to play his |
20 | | double bell euphonium with his grandson on baritone and his |
21 | | granddaughter on trombone; and |
22 | | WHEREAS, Gary Lickfett auditioned to be a salesman in the |
23 | | DLO Musical Theatre production of The Music Man in 1990; he |

1 | | soon discovered he preferred working behind the scenes, |
2 | | serving DLO as the master set builder for 30 years; in his |
3 | | later years, he helped with the Beef House Dinner Theatre |
4 | | sets; he was admired for his imagination, attention to detail, |
5 | | and willingness to bring a set idea to life and create unusual |
6 | | props; he was involved in 66 productions and served as DLO |
7 | | president for six years and as a board member for many years; |
8 | | his friendships with board members and casts went beyond the |
9 | | hours spent working on a production together, and he gained |
10 | | satisfaction from teaching younger cast members building |
11 | | skills; he was able to help coordinate the work of contractors |
12 | | with the goal of creating a more usable site to house and |
13 | | consolidate all DLO work and rehearsal spaces; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Gary Lickfett was preceded in death by his |
15 | | parents; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Gary Lickfett is survived by his wife of 51 |
17 | | years, Dorothy; his sons, Jay (Kara), Todd (Julie), and |
18 | | Timothy; his grandchildren, Garrett, Caroline, and Jack; his |
19 | | sisters, Virginia (James) Brodd and Vickie (Steve) Sandven; |
20 | | his sister-in-law, Judy (Charles) Gensmer; and numerous |
21 | | nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles; therefore, be it
