2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Linda Lou Lyman-Weiman, Ph.D. of Santa | ||||||
4 | Fe, New Mexico, formerly of Peoria, who passed away on August | ||||||
5 | 10, 2022; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Linda Lyman-Weiman was born in Hutchinson, Kansas | ||||||
7 | on March 29, 1941; she was the daughter of Burton and Doris; | ||||||
8 | she received her Bachelor of Arts in English from Northwestern | ||||||
9 | University in 1963; she earned her Master of Arts in Teaching | ||||||
10 | in Secondary Education from Harvard University in 1964; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Linda Lyman-Weiman taught high school English in | ||||||
12 | the Boston, Massachusetts and Omaha, Nevada areas for several | ||||||
13 | years; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Linda Lyman-Weiman married John Gale in 1966, and | ||||||
15 | they raised their family in Washington, D.C., Lincoln, | ||||||
16 | Nebraska, and North Platte, Nebraska; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Linda Lyman-Weiman obtained her doctoral degree | ||||||
18 | in Administration, Curriculum, and Instruction from the | ||||||
19 | University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1990; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Linda Lyman-Weiman joined the faculty at Bradley |

| |||||||
1 | University in 1990; she began teaching at Illinois State | ||||||
2 | University in Normal in 1999, where she remained until she | ||||||
3 | retired as a professor emerita on December 31, 2017; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Linda Lyman-Weiman authored and co-authored five | ||||||
5 | academic books during her teaching career; after her | ||||||
6 | retirement, she published a book of her poems; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Linda Lyman-Weiman married Dave Weiman in Peoria | ||||||
8 | in October 2001, where they lived until they moved to Santa Fe, | ||||||
9 | New Mexico in December 2019; together, they loved visiting | ||||||
10 | family, enjoying old friends and making new ones, traveling | ||||||
11 | near and far, listening to music, hosting dinner parties, and | ||||||
12 | listening to the birds and feeling the breeze while relaxing | ||||||
13 | in their urban garden; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Linda Lyman-Weiman is survived by her husband of | ||||||
15 | 21 years, Dave Weiman; her children, David (Kristine) Gale, | ||||||
16 | Elaine Gale, and Steve (Chrissy) Gale; her grandchildren, | ||||||
17 | Jack, Charles, Thomas, Tyler, Carter, and Jake; and her | ||||||
18 | sister, Margo (Pat) Thompson; therefore, be it
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
21 | Linda Lou Lyman-Weiman, Ph.D. and extend our sincere | ||||||
22 | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved |

| ||||||
2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
3 | presented to the family of Linda Lyman-Weiman as an expression | ||||||
4 | of our deepest sympathy.
