2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Richard E. "Dick" Dhabalt of | ||||||
4 | Springfield, who passed away on September 11, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dick Dhabalt was born to Jerry and Lois Hansen | ||||||
6 | Dhabalt in Cordova on September 20, 1936; he graduated from | ||||||
7 | Moline High School in 1954; he graduated from Bradley | ||||||
8 | University and the University of Illinois, earning his | ||||||
9 | bachelor's and master's degrees; while at Bradley University, | ||||||
10 | he belonged to the men's basketball team that won the National | ||||||
11 | Invitational Tournament (NIT) in 1957 and was a Hall of Fame | ||||||
12 | team member on the 1956-1957 basketball teams; he married | ||||||
13 | Kathleen "Kathy" Dooley in Peoria on June 28, 1958, and she | ||||||
14 | preceded him in death on April 15, 2019; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Dick Dhabalt taught at Rock Falls High School for | ||||||
16 | one year and Rich Township High School for eight years prior to | ||||||
17 | joining the staff of Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC); as | ||||||
18 | a founding faculty member of LLCC, he served the college for 23 | ||||||
19 | years until his retirement in August 1993; during his tenure, | ||||||
20 | he served as head coach of men's basketball for 20 years, | ||||||
21 | athletic director for 20 years, and an instructor of Physical | ||||||
22 | Education and Mathematics for 25 years; as LLCC's first | ||||||
23 | athletic director, he coached and developed 11 sports; and

1 | WHEREAS, Dick Dhabalt was selected to serve as the Region | ||||||
2 | IV assistant director by the National Junior College Athletic | ||||||
3 | Association; he then served as the Region XXIV director; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Dick Dhabalt was inducted into the Region XXIV | ||||||
5 | Hall of Fame by the National Junior College Athletic | ||||||
6 | Association in 1991 and the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame in | ||||||
7 | 2015; he was honored by LLCC with the inauguration of the male | ||||||
8 | and female Dick Dhabalt Athlete of the Year awards in 2016; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Dick Dhabalt was preceded in death by his wife; | ||||||
10 | his parents; his son, Drew Dhabalt; his brothers, Denny and | ||||||
11 | Larry Dhabalt; and his sister, Connie Anderson; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Dick Dhabalt is survived by his sons, Richard | ||||||
13 | "Rick" (Sheri) Dhabalt and Daniel "Dan" Dhabalt; his | ||||||
14 | daughters, Deborah "Debbie" McCoy and Victoria "Vicki" | ||||||
15 | Compton; his daughter-in-law, Melanie Dhabalt; his | ||||||
16 | grandchildren, Brittney, Trey (Lexi), Tim, Matt, and Amy | ||||||
17 | Dhabalt, Emily (Brock) Pries, Tricia McCoy, and Sydney | ||||||
18 | Compton; his great-grandsons, Brody and Beckett; his | ||||||
19 | sister-in-law, Sue Dhabalt; and his brother-in-law, Jim | ||||||
20 | Dooley; therefore, be it
