2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Marilyn Jo Eckles of Normal, who |
4 | | passed away on August 22, 2022; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles was born in Fort Collins, Colorado |
6 | | on August 9, 1930; she was the daughter of Herbert Stanley and |
7 | | Mary Irene McClelland Norlin; she married Charles "Ford" |
8 | | Eckles in Fort Collins on June 11, 1950; she earned her degree |
9 | | in Special Education from Illinois State University in 1970; |
10 | | and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles developed a pre-school program at |
12 | | Sunnyside Center, where she created a curriculum and planned |
13 | | developmental activities for children of public housing and |
14 | | low-income families; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles authored children's books, |
16 | | including the well-known book, The Mending Tree; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles was very active in the |
18 | | Bloomington/Normal community; she was a 4H leader for about |
19 | | six years; she and her husband served as co-presidents of the |
20 | | Franklin School PTA; she was also a member of the League of |
21 | | Women Voters and served on several committees for the United |

2 | | WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles was an avid reader of mysteries, |
3 | | biographies, histories, and the classics; she was also |
4 | | interested in photography, her family's genealogy, and |
5 | | traveling with her husband; she loved spending time with her |
6 | | family; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles was preceded in death by her |
8 | | husband and her sisters, Ruth Everett and Margaret Lynn; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles is survived by her children, David |
10 | | (Eugenia) Eckles, M. Kathryn (Rick) Terven, Karen (Daryl) |
11 | | Ioerger, and Kristy (Morgan) Raines; her grandchildren, Katya |
12 | | Karina, Ricky (Michelle) Terven, Andrew (Amanda Trefzger) |
13 | | Terven, Wayne Terven, Adam Ioerger, Joshua (Erin Hall) |
14 | | Ioerger, Bret Ioerger, Jenna (Romel) Rehman, Gavin (Elizabeth) |
15 | | Raines, and Ryan (Megon) Raines; her granddaughter-in-law, |
16 | | Anne Terven; her 12 great-grandchildren; and her sister, |
17 | | Rosalie (Don) Defler; therefore, be it

18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
20 | | Marilyn Jo Eckles and extend our sincere condolences to her |
21 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
