SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dan "Danny" Wolf, proud owner of The Bagel Restaurant and Deli, who passed away on July 1, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Danny Wolf was born to Ruth and Edward Wolf in 1945; he was one of the few child survivors of the infamous Theresienstadt concentration camp; he came to the United States with his family at an early age; he started to help at the original Bagel Restaurant in Albany Park, which was started by his parents and his grandparents, Chaim and Elsa Golenzer; at the age of seven, he was responsible for typing the daily menus because he was the only family member that had mastered enough English at the time; and

WHEREAS, Danny Wolf pursued other fields as a young man and earned his degree in Psychology before finally embracing his first calling of hospitality; he took over the family business in 1969 and, along with his late uncle Michael Golenzer, shepherded The Bagel Restaurant through three locations in the Chicago area; and

WHEREAS, Danny Wolf was also active as a local commissioner and as president of the East Lakeview Chamber of Commerce; he was instrumental in the organization's growth and pioneered many of the programs it offers; even before the chamber was formed, he was known as a community organizer among businesses, bringing people together to build a vibrant community in Lakeview; and

WHEREAS, Dan Wolf expressed gratefulness to America for all the opportunities it offered his family; accordingly, he was a generous benefactor of many charities and causes, including the Jewish Children and Family Services of Chicago, which recently honored him with an award a few years ago; he will be remembered for his kindness and generosity; and

WHEREAS, Danny Wolf was preceded in death by his siblings, Walter and Barbara; and

WHEREAS, Danny Wolf is survived by his companion and spouse of over 60 years, Mitchell Kaufman; his aunt, Haya Golenzer; and a host of friends who loved him; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dan "Danny" Wolf and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Danny Wolf as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
