SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Marvin "Preach" Webb of Edwardsville,
4who passed away on June 8, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marvin Webb was born in Edwardsville to John and
6Lillie (Baldwin) Webb on January 12, 1936; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Marvin Webb was thought of as the goodwill
8ambassador of Edwardsville to many generations of Edwardsville
9families; he was affectionately known as "Mr. Edwardsville",
10the happy, smiling man, who visited the Downtown Edwardsville
11businesses and brought a kind word to everyone he encountered
12within the city; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Marvin Webb was a sharp dresser and regularly
14wore a fresh carnation in his lapel; he loved Edwardsville and
15Elvis, and the stores up and down the downtown area provided
16him with shirts, watches, ties, pants, shoes, and everything
17imaginable on his birthday and at other times; he also was a
18constant visitor at the Madison County Courthouse and the
19Edwardsville Police Station and was a sort of unofficial
20officer for the city; he wanted people to follow the rules and,
21in a good way, would always approach people who were not
22following those rules and try to set them straight; and

1    WHEREAS, Marvin Webb was a lifelong member of the Mt. Joy
2Missionary Baptist Church in Edwardsville; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Marvin Webb was preceded in death by his parents;
4his brother, Curtis Webb; and his sister, Julia McKinney; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marvin Webb is survived by his brothers, L.D.
6Bradford and James (Cynthia) Webb; his sisters, Lavon Lagrown,
7Lillie (Fred) Willis, Pearlie Talbert, Maggie Smith, and
8Mattie Holmes; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Marvin "Preach" Webb and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Marvin Webb as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
