2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Marvin "Preach" Webb of Edwardsville, |
4 | | who passed away on June 8, 2022; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Marvin Webb was born in Edwardsville to John and |
6 | | Lillie (Baldwin) Webb on January 12, 1936; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Marvin Webb was thought of as the goodwill |
8 | | ambassador of Edwardsville to many generations of Edwardsville |
9 | | families; he was affectionately known as "Mr. Edwardsville", |
10 | | the happy, smiling man, who visited the Downtown Edwardsville |
11 | | businesses and brought a kind word to everyone he encountered |
12 | | within the city; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, Marvin Webb was a sharp dresser and regularly |
14 | | wore a fresh carnation in his lapel; he loved Edwardsville and |
15 | | Elvis, and the stores up and down the downtown area provided |
16 | | him with shirts, watches, ties, pants, shoes, and everything |
17 | | imaginable on his birthday and at other times; he also was a |
18 | | constant visitor at the Madison County Courthouse and the |
19 | | Edwardsville Police Station and was a sort of unofficial |
20 | | officer for the city; he wanted people to follow the rules and, |
21 | | in a good way, would always approach people who were not |
22 | | following those rules and try to set them straight; and
