SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Roger Cunningham of Peoria, who passed
4away on June 21, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roger Cunningham was born in Chicago on December
64, 1940; he grew up in Galesburg; he earned a bachelor's degree
7and a master's degree in Music Education from Illinois
8Wesleyan University and the University of Illinois; he married
9Shirley Koelling in 1966, and they resided in the Peoria area
10for most of their married life; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Roger Cunningham proudly played trombone in the
12U.S. Army Band at Fort Knox for two years; he also played
13trombone in the Peoria Symphony Orchestra and the Peoria
14Municipal Band; he was also a skilled player of recorders, and
15he participated in various recorder ensembles and music
16festivals throughout the country; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Roger Cunningham made his career in computer
18programming, spending most of his years at the RLI
19Corporation; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Roger Cunningham was an active member of the
21Universalist Unitarian Church of Peoria, where he sang in the

1choir and managed the UU Cuubs church baseball team in the
21990s; in recent years, he became an avid student of the
3Mandarin language due to inspiration by several close
4connections with Chinese students, friends, and teachers; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roger Cunningham was preceded in death by his
6parents, Frank and Mabel Cunningham; his nephew, Jeff De
7Bruine; and nine cousins with whom he enjoyed close
8friendships due to their living on the same block; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Roger Cunningham is survived by his wife,
10Shirley; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and Paul
11De Bruine; four nieces; eight grandnieces and grandnephews;
12and numerous cousins; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Roger Cunningham and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Roger Cunningham as an expression
20of our deepest sympathy.
