| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Michael F. Powers Jr. of Des Plaines, | ||||||
| 4 | who passed away on July 8, 2022; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Michael Powers was born to Michael Powers Sr. and | ||||||
| 6 | Marie D'Andrea in Chicago on October 6, 1934; he earned his | ||||||
| 7 | teaching degree from National Louis University; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Michael Powers worked as a teacher at South | ||||||
| 9 | School in District 62 for over 35 years; he loved his students | ||||||
| 10 | and influenced many lives in a profound way; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Michael Powers was a member of St. Mary Church of | ||||||
| 12 | Des Plaines where he served as a member of the parish council, | ||||||
| 13 | organized fundraisers, and sang in the choir; he was also a | ||||||
| 14 | member of the Des Plaines Elks Lodge and volunteered at both | ||||||
| 15 | Holy Family and Lutheran General Hospitals; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Michael Powers managed a south-side Des Plaines | ||||||
| 17 | Little League team for many years; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Michael Powers was a kind, patient, enthusiastic, | ||||||
| 19 | and optimistic person who enjoyed traveling, sports, history, | ||||||
| 20 | reading, and, most of all, interacting with people; he was a | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | White Sox fan and loved playing golf; he was an outstanding | ||||||
| 2 | singer and was proud of his Irish ancestry; he enjoyed singing | ||||||
| 3 | with the Irish Heritage Singers of Chicago and loved the many | ||||||
| 4 | friendships he established through the organization; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Michael Powers was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 6 | parents; his brother, Thomas Powers; his nephew, David Powers; | ||||||
| 7 | and his sister-in-law, Patricia Obidowicz; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Michael Powers is survived by his wife of 58 | ||||||
| 9 | years, Carole; his brother, David Powers; his nieces and | ||||||
| 10 | nephews, Nancy Etzold, Dess Ann Fedele, Mathew Powers, Stephen | ||||||
| 11 | Powers, Ashley Cunningham, Christopher Powers, Shelly | ||||||
| 12 | Langguth, Jeffrey Langguth, Laura Hedrick Zoltowski, and | ||||||
| 13 | Michael Hedrick; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
| 15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
| 16 | Michael F. Powers Jr. and extend our sincere
condolences to | ||||||
| 17 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it | ||||||
| 18 | further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

| 20 | presented to the family of Michael Powers as an expression of
