2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Arlyn Lober of Springfield, who passed |
4 | | away on May 12, 2022; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Arlyn Lober was born in Cissna Park to Edward and |
6 | | Rosella (Roll) Lober on May 8, 1924; he graduated from Cissna |
7 | | Park High School, where he was a star athlete and |
8 | | valedictorian; he served in the U.S. Army during World War II |
9 | | with the 11th Armored Division of Patton's 3rd Army |
10 | | Thunderbolt as a tank commander and fought in the Battle of the |
11 | | Bulge; he was awarded the Purple Heart; he then earned his |
12 | | bachelor's degree and master's degree from the University of |
13 | | Illinois and was a proud supporter of the Fighting Illini; he |
14 | | married Maureen Macy in Litchfield on June 18, 1950; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Arlyn Lober took his first teaching position in |
16 | | Litchfield, where he met his future wife; they moved to |
17 | | Springfield in 1952, and he begin teaching math and coaching |
18 | | at Lanphier High School; he taught at Lanphier High School for |
19 | | 33 years and was the Lanphier basketball coach for 22 years; he |
20 | | took five teams to State and had over 400 career wins; he also |
21 | | coached tennis and cross country in his early years at |
22 | | Lanphier; he retired from coaching in 1973 and then became the |
23 | | athletic director; he retired from Lanphier in 1986; he was |

1 | | inducted into the Illinois High School Basketball Coaches Hall |
2 | | of Fame and the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Arlyn Lober was a member of Peace Lutheran |
4 | | Church, the Disabled American Veterans, Kiwanis International, |
5 | | and the Ansar Shriners; he was also a lifetime member of the |
6 | | American Legion of Cissna Park and a past member of the |
7 | | Sangamon County Board; he loved boating, water-skiing, |
8 | | traveling, spending summers at the DAV Club, and attending his |
9 | | grandchildren's many sporting events and activities; he was an |
10 | | avid runner, golfer, and tennis player and a lifelong Chicago |
11 | | Cubs fan who would fly the "W" after every win; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Arlyn Lober was preceded in death by his parents; |
13 | | his infant daughter, Laurette Lober; and his brother, Dale E. |
14 | | Lober; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Arlyn Lober is survived by his wife, Maureen; his |
16 | | daughters, Becky (Denny) Hendricks, Rose (Ric) Lober-Hamilton, |
17 | | and Chris (Todd) Green; his grandchildren, Macy (Nick) |
18 | | Lober-Morrison, Thomas Hamilton, Audrey Green, and Gabriel |
19 | | Green; his great-grandchildren, Eli Cook, Teagan Bensko, and |
20 | | Jacob Morrison; and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be |
21 | | it
