|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Donald Lee "Don" Slininger of Moline, |
4 | | who passed away on April 27, 2022; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Don Slininger was born to Meredith Evan "Jim" and |
6 | | Mary Frances (Schmiers) Slininger in Moline on January 28, |
7 | | 1940; he served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960; he married |
8 | | Lovena (Wage) Adams in Moline on July 14, 1976; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Don Slininger worked as a millwright at the John |
10 | | Deere Foundry for 38 years, retiring in the early 1990s; he |
11 | | also retired as a machine repairman from Oscar Meyer and |
12 | | Diamond Cut; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Don Slininger was a member of Christ the King |
14 | | Catholic Church in Moline and an active member of the Local |
15 | | U.A.W; he was also a member of East Moline V.F.W. #8890 and |
16 | | Silvis Masonic Lodge #898 AF & AM, where he was a former |
17 | | worshipful master; he was always active and enjoyed bicycling, |
18 | | riding his motorcycle, camping, taekwondo, and participating |
19 | | in numerous triathlons; he enjoyed multiple bus trips over the |
20 | | years; he loved cars and trains and was a top five Enduro dirt |
21 | | bike rider in the Quad Cities; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Don Slininger loved helping anyone and everyone; |
2 | | he was known as a master fixer of everything; he designed and |
3 | | built a number of things, including parade floats and an |
4 | | accessible house and car for a disabled couple; he valued |
5 | | family most of all; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Don Slininger was preceded in death by his |
7 | | parents; his brother, Merle Slininger; and his grandson, Jason |
8 | | Barnett; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Don Slininger is survived by his wife, Lovena; |
10 | | his children, Dion (Darlene) Slininger, Donita Slininger, |
11 | | Ragina Smith, Kelli (Jason) Ryband, Anthony (Kindra) |
12 | | Slininger, and Daniel (Carmen) Slininger; his grandchildren, |
13 | | Benjamin Slininger, Michael (Rachel) Slininger, Randi (Junior |
14 | | Oliva) Adams, Jennifer Barnett, Jamie (Jacob) Viaene, Ambi |
15 | | Sappho, Jarrod Williams, Bryan-Patrik Slininger, Nicholas |
16 | | Slininger, and Kaitlynn Slininger; his great-grandchildren, |
17 | | Owen Slininger, Cameron Brewer, Keegan Brewer, Cruz Oliva, |
18 | | Cristian Oliva, Julian Oliva, Jaxon Oliva, Bentley Oliva, |
19 | | Elijah Barnett, and Conner Skiles; his great-granddaughter and |
20 | | his great-great-grandchild on the way; his siblings, Janet |
21 | | (Steve Lawrence) Crow, Joseph (Sherrie) Slininger, Joyce |
22 | | (David) Franks, and Judy (Dale) Huntley; his sister-in-law, |
23 | | Marilyn Slininger; and his cat, Lucky; therefore, be it

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
3 | | Donald Lee "Don" Slininger and extend our sincere condolences |
4 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
5 | | it further
|
6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Don Slininger as an expression of |
8 | | our deepest sympathy.
