2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Paul Russell Santy, formerly of | ||||||
4 | Rosewood Heights, who passed away on September 28, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Paul Russell Santy was born to Earl and Opal | ||||||
6 | Pearl (Kimsey) Santy in Rosiclare on August 4, 1928; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from Rosiclare High School; he was on staff at the | ||||||
8 | U.S. Fleet Sonar School in Key West, Florida for 2 years; he | ||||||
9 | served on a destroyer in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, | ||||||
10 | providing fire support for the Army and giving support and | ||||||
11 | supplies to guerrilla groups behind the lines, earning two | ||||||
12 | Bronze Stars; he attended Michigan State University in East | ||||||
13 | Lansing, Michigan and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale | ||||||
14 | (SIU-C), where he earned his master's degree in School | ||||||
15 | Administration and was inducted into the honorary fraternity | ||||||
16 | Phi Delta Kappa at SIU-C in 1955; he married Donna Lou East at | ||||||
17 | the First Christian Church in West Frankfort on August 14, | ||||||
18 | 1954, and she preceded him in death on April 19, 2019; they | ||||||
19 | lived in Carterville before moving to the East Alton/Wood | ||||||
20 | River area; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Paul Santy taught at Roxana Junior and Senior | ||||||
22 | High Schools for four years; he then served as principal at | ||||||
23 | East Alton Junior High School District 13 for 28 years before |

1 | retiring; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Paul Santy was past-president of the Roxana | ||||||
3 | Teacher's Association and served on the board of directors of | ||||||
4 | the Teachers Federal Credit Union; he was a member of the | ||||||
5 | National Teachers Association, the Illinois Teachers | ||||||
6 | Association, and the Illinois Junior High Principals | ||||||
7 | Association, serving on several committees of those | ||||||
8 | organizations; he served on a committee for selecting | ||||||
9 | educational programs for KETC (Channel 9) and the City of Wood | ||||||
10 | River Traffic Commission; he also raised funds for the Boy | ||||||
11 | Scouts of America; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Paul Santy was a life member of Alton VFW Post | ||||||
13 | 1308, East Alton American Legion Post 794, and the First | ||||||
14 | United Methodist Church in East Alton; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Paul Santy was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
16 | his wife of 65 years, Donna; his son and daughter-in-law, | ||||||
17 | Scott Russell and Cathy Santy; and his grandson, Joshua Scott | ||||||
18 | Santy; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Paul Santy was | ||||||
20 | survived by his sons, Brent Spencer (Robbie) Santy and Michael | ||||||
21 | Scott (Cynthia) Santy; his grandchildren, Kacey Lea Santy, | ||||||
22 | Kaylea Nicole Santy, Benjamin Michael Santy, Luke Henry Santy, |

1 | and Brooke Elizabeth Santy; his brother, Richard (Paula) | ||||||
2 | Santy; his nieces, Reta D. East, Laura Shewmake, and Jan (Jim) | ||||||
3 | Kuppart; and his great-niece, Stephanie Shewmake; therefore, | ||||||
4 | be it

5 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
6 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
7 | Paul Russell Santy and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
8 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
9 | further
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
11 | presented to the family of Paul Santy as an expression of our | ||||||
12 | deepest sympathy.
