|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Bette R. Jackson of Woodson, who |
4 | | passed away on March 13, 2022; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Bette Jackson was born to Raymond E. and |
6 | | Elizabeth L. Bronson Johnson in Wausau, Wisconsin on February |
7 | | 15, 1935; she graduated from Appleton High School in Wisconsin |
8 | | in 1953; she married Lee Roy Jackson Jr. on August 18, 1956, |
9 | | and he preceded her in death on April 24, 2008; she graduated |
10 | | from MacMurray College in 1957; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Bette Jackson threw herself into being a |
12 | | Jacksonvillian after marriage; following her love of nature, |
13 | | she developed and directed the first Girl Scout overnight |
14 | | camping program for the area; she also served as president and |
15 | | was an enthusiastic supporter of the Jacksonville MacMurray |
16 | | Music Association; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Bette Jackson served on the Passavant Memorial |
18 | | Area Hospital's Board of Trustees for multiple terms; she |
19 | | promoted the hospital's blood donation program throughout |
20 | | Morgan and Scott counties; she also developed and promoted the |
21 | | first CPR training program for the hospital; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Bette Jackson followed her true passion in 1987, |
2 | | founding and becoming the director of Woodhaven Hospice, the |
3 | | first compassionate dying program for patients and families in |
4 | | the area; she served as director for 20 years until her |
5 | | retirement; during this time, she established support groups |
6 | | for both survivors of strokes and the families of stroke |
7 | | victims in Jacksonville; she also advocated for younger town |
8 | | members by starting a grief support group at Turner Junior |
9 | | High School; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Bette Jackson joined her husband's family church, |
11 | | First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, where she served as |
12 | | both an elder and a deacon for multiple terms; she was a |
13 | | long-standing and active member of Chapter El of the PEO, |
14 | | where she served in several different leadership positions for |
15 | | many years; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Bette Jackson was preceded in death by her |
17 | | parents; her husband; and her brother, William R. Johnson; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Bette Jackson is survived by her daughters, Rae |
19 | | Ellen Hopkins-Hostetler (Randy) and Karen "KJ" Doyle (Kelly); |
20 | | her grandchildren, Becca R. Cannon, Sarah E. Hopkins (Brandon |
21 | | Doherty), and Laura B. Whittaker; her step-grandchildren, C. |
22 | | Doyle, Molly Doyle, and Jason Doyle; one great-granddaughter; |
23 | | two great-grandsons; and her sister-in-law, Carol (Gary) |

2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
3 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
4 | | Bette R. Jackson and extend our sincere condolences to her |
5 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
6 | | further

7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
8 | | presented to the family of Bette Jackson as an expression of |
9 | | our deepest sympathy.
