SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Bette R. Jackson of Woodson, who
4passed away on March 13, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bette Jackson was born to Raymond E. and
6Elizabeth L. Bronson Johnson in Wausau, Wisconsin on February
715, 1935; she graduated from Appleton High School in Wisconsin
8in 1953; she married Lee Roy Jackson Jr. on August 18, 1956,
9and he preceded her in death on April 24, 2008; she graduated
10from MacMurray College in 1957; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Bette Jackson threw herself into being a
12Jacksonvillian after marriage; following her love of nature,
13she developed and directed the first Girl Scout overnight
14camping program for the area; she also served as president and
15was an enthusiastic supporter of the Jacksonville MacMurray
16Music Association; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Bette Jackson served on the Passavant Memorial
18Area Hospital's Board of Trustees for multiple terms; she
19promoted the hospital's blood donation program throughout
20Morgan and Scott counties; she also developed and promoted the
21first CPR training program for the hospital; and

1    WHEREAS, Bette Jackson followed her true passion in 1987,
2founding and becoming the director of Woodhaven Hospice, the
3first compassionate dying program for patients and families in
4the area; she served as director for 20 years until her
5retirement; during this time, she established support groups
6for both survivors of strokes and the families of stroke
7victims in Jacksonville; she also advocated for younger town
8members by starting a grief support group at Turner Junior
9High School; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bette Jackson joined her husband's family church,
11First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, where she served as
12both an elder and a deacon for multiple terms; she was a
13long-standing and active member of Chapter El of the PEO,
14where she served in several different leadership positions for
15many years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Bette Jackson was preceded in death by her
17parents; her husband; and her brother, William R. Johnson; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Bette Jackson is survived by her daughters, Rae
19Ellen Hopkins-Hostetler (Randy) and Karen "KJ" Doyle (Kelly);
20her grandchildren, Becca R. Cannon, Sarah E. Hopkins (Brandon
21Doherty), and Laura B. Whittaker; her step-grandchildren, C.
22Doyle, Molly Doyle, and Jason Doyle; one great-granddaughter;
23two great-grandsons; and her sister-in-law, Carol (Gary)

1Watkins; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4Bette R. Jackson and extend our sincere condolences to her
5family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
6further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Bette Jackson as an expression of
9our deepest sympathy.
