SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of John Henry "Red" Lofton, who passed
4away on February 22, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Lofton was born in Isola, Mississippi to RB
6Lofton and Pearl Nixon on June 20, 1944; he graduated from
7McNair High School and received his associate's degree from
8Coahoma Jr. College and his bachelor's degree from Alcorn
9State University; he married Ruby McCamury on May 31, 1975;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Lofton always believed in hard work; he
12established his work ethics in the cotton fields of
13Mississippi and was employed at the Walgreens in Chicago while
14attending high school and throughout junior college; and
 
15    WHEREAS, John Lofton chose a life of protection and
16service; over 30 years of his life were dedicated to the
17Illinois State Police, and he was honored to serve as an
18officer for the FAA; even during his years of retirement, he
19was the Director of Security at Chicago City Colleges; he was
20honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Reserve after serving
2115 years; and

1    WHEREAS, John Lofton committed to his faith at an early
2age; while living in Chicago, he was a member of Holy Sanctuary
3and Friendship Baptist Churches; he was a strong, supportive,
4and protective husband and father; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Lofton was preceded in death by his parents
6and his siblings, Berthea, Herman, Jennette, and Sammie; and
 
7    WHEREAS, John Lofton is survived by his wife, Ruby; his
8sons, Marvin and Don Ragsdale; his daughters, Sharon (Michael)
9Johnson and Jonnetter; his siblings, Annette (Cecil) Lampton,
10Billy and Thomas Lofton, Hattie Toy, Vickie L. Floyd, Willie
11(Angela) Lofton, and Willie Ann Moss; and numerous
12grandchildren, great-grandchildren, godchildren, nieces,
13nephews, other relatives, friends, and co-workers; therefore,
14be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17John Henry "Red" Lofton and extend our sincere condolences to
18his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of John Lofton as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
