|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Robbie Louise (Rodgers) Curry, who |
4 | | passed away on January 27, 2022; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Louise Curry was born to Bob and Ethel Mae |
6 | | Rodgers in Oxford, Mississippi on July 19, 1935; she was a |
7 | | member of the Oxford 4-H Club and worked at Butch's Cafe as a |
8 | | teenager; she graduated from Oxford Training School in 1955; |
9 | | she completed the nursing program at Mississippi Valley State |
10 | | University in Vicksburg, Mississippi; she married Leroy Curry |
11 | | in Oxford on September 24, 1957, and they moved to Chicago; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Louise Curry worked as a licensed practical nurse |
13 | | at Cook County Hospital, and she soon after became a licensed |
14 | | cosmetologist; her nursing career spanned over 50 years, with |
15 | | over 30 years of service with the Veterans Health |
16 | | Administration (VA) hospitals; during her career, she received |
17 | | many awards and commendations for her outstanding service; she |
18 | | retired from the Westside VA Hospital in 1997; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Louise Curry belonged to a number of clubs and |
20 | | civic organizations, including the Oxford Club, which provided |
21 | | social connection and support for former Oxford, Mississippi |
22 | | residents who migrated to Chicago, and the Alpha Chi Pi Omega |

1 | | Sorority for Cosmetology; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, Louise Curry committed to her faith at an early |
3 | | age at St. Paul Methodist Church; she was a member of Atonement |
4 | | Church since 1965, where she became a mother and grandmother |
5 | | figure to many through her heart of gold, fierceness, and |
6 | | compassion; she also held many leadership positions within the |
7 | | church; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Louise Curry was a big sister, a mother, an aunt, |
9 | | a cousin, and a grandmother; she enjoyed sitting on her front |
10 | | porch, soaking in the sun while chit-chatting with neighbors |
11 | | and watching the cars pass; she also enjoyed long, daily |
12 | | conversations with family and friends, playing cards, |
13 | | completing crossword puzzles, traveling, and encouraging her |
14 | | daughters and granddaughter; she will be remembered for her |
15 | | kindness, service, generosity, and never-ending strength; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Louise Curry was preceded in death by her |
17 | | husband, Leroy Curry; her parents; and five siblings; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Louise Curry is survived by her daughters, |
19 | | Rochelle Teresita, Yolanda Yvette, and Cassandra Lea; her |
20 | | granddaughter, Bailey Louise; her brother, Leonard David; her |
21 | | sister, Octavia Aislee; her goddaughter, Miracle Hunt; her |
22 | | very close and special friends, Yvonne Taylor Wormsby and Mary |

1 | | Helen Anderson; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and a |
2 | | host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends; |
3 | | therefore, be it

4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
6 | | Robbie Louise (Rodgers) Curry and extend our sincere |
7 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
8 | | her; and be it further

9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
10 | | presented to the family of Louise Curry as an expression of our |
11 | | deepest sympathy.
