2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of John Patrick Fleming of Pace, Florida, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on January 14, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Fleming was born to Patrick and Elizabeth | ||||||
6 | Anne (Funk) Fleming in Alton on January 13, 1978; he graduated | ||||||
7 | from Marquette High School; he married Helen Street in | ||||||
8 | Edwardsville on December 5, 2003, with a public ceremony | ||||||
9 | following in Godfrey on May 30, 2004; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, John Fleming served in the U.S. Army starting in | ||||||
11 | 1999; he completed 20 years of continuous, honorable service | ||||||
12 | with the 101st Airborne and Ranger Training Battalions, where | ||||||
13 | he achieved the rank of sergeant first class; he was a veteran | ||||||
14 | of The Global War on Terrorism, including Operation Enduring | ||||||
15 | Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, John Fleming earned several decorations and | ||||||
17 | awards, including the Silver Star for gallantry in action | ||||||
18 | against an enemy in Operation Bulldog Bite; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, John Fleming was actively involved with several | ||||||
20 | local organizations, clubs, and governing boards, including | ||||||
21 | the Escambia River Gun Club; and

1 | WHEREAS, John Fleming enjoyed spending time outdoors, | ||||||
2 | shooting, and, above all, spending time with his family, | ||||||
3 | including coaching his son in sports; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, John Fleming was preceded in death by his mother; | ||||||
5 | his grandparents, Don and Judy Funk and Thomas and Marion | ||||||
6 | Fleming; and his uncle, Donald Funk; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, John Fleming is survived by his wife; his son, | ||||||
8 | John Patrick Jr.; his father, Patrick (Rosemary) Fleming; his | ||||||
9 | brother, Michael (April) Fleming; his sister, Anne Fleming; | ||||||
10 | his parents-in-law, William and Charlene Street; his | ||||||
11 | brother-in-law, Bill (Marissa) Street; his many aunts, uncles, | ||||||
12 | nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his good friends; therefore, | ||||||
13 | be it

14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
16 | John Patrick Fleming and extend our sincere
condolences to his | ||||||
17 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it | ||||||
18 | further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

20 | presented to the family of John Fleming as an expression of
