|
2 | | WHEREAS, High school is a critical time for development of |
3 | | career choices; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Apprenticeship programs for students combine |
5 | | academic and technical classroom instruction with work |
6 | | experience through experiential learning and hands-on |
7 | | training; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Apprenticeships provide students with access to |
9 | | high-quality, industry-focused training that combines |
10 | | classroom and on-the-job learning and affordable pathways to |
11 | | college and careers in high-demand industries; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Apprenticeship programs connect students to |
13 | | high-wage, high-skill, and in-demand occupations in such |
14 | | fields as business and finance, healthcare, information |
15 | | technology, advanced manufacturing, and education; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, New sectors are emerging with the Clean Energy |
17 | | Jobs Act (CEJA) that will repower communities by expanding |
18 | | access to clean energy careers, building community wealth, and |
19 | | ensuring new opportunities as they build a new clean energy |
20 | | economy; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Students are provided the foundation to |
2 | | jump-start their careers and to choose among multiple |
3 | | pathways, including to enroll in college, begin full-time |
4 | | employment, or a combination of both; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Apprenticeships are also valuable for school |
6 | | systems, as they may enhance school retention and graduation |
7 | | rates; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Apprenticeships promote student success by |
9 | | providing students with the support they need to take the next |
10 | | steps to succeed in college and careers; therefore, be it
|
11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge high school |
13 | | educators and counselors to promote career and technical |
14 | | education by assisting each student to determine an |
15 | | appropriate post-secondary plan based upon their skills, |
16 | | strengths, and goals and by helping them implement the best |
17 | | practices that improve career or workforce readiness after |
18 | | high school; and be it further

19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
20 | | delivered to the State Superintendent of Education.
