2 | | WHEREAS, Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is the progressive, |
3 | | gradual loss of kidney function, which results in a decrease |
4 | | in the ability of the kidneys to remove waste from the body; |
5 | | and

6 | | WHEREAS, It is estimated that 37 million adults in the |
7 | | United States have CKD, and of those, approximately 90 percent |
8 | | remain undiagnosed; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Without diagnosis and treatment to slow its |
10 | | progression, CKD can progress to end-stage renal failure, |
11 | | which is fatal unless the patient receives dialysis or a |
12 | | kidney transplant; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, CKD is associated with more severe COVID-19 |
14 | | infections, and COVID-19 may cause acute kidney damage that |
15 | | can lead to dialysis or even death; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Regular screening and early detection can prevent |
17 | | the progression of kidney disease to kidney failure, and it is |
18 | | essential that awareness of kidney disease and the importance |
19 | | of prevention and early detection be raised; and
