| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Thomas Earl Cliff, who passed away on |
| 4 | | January 15, 2022; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Cliff was born to Tom Lee Cliff and Martha |
| 6 | | (Anderson) Cliff in Brownsville, Tennessee on September 1, |
| 7 | | 1947; he relocated to Decatur in 1958; he graduated from |
| 8 | | Eisenhower High School in 1967; he was drafted into the U.S. |
| 9 | | Army, where he served two tours in Vietnam; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Cliff worked for Illinois Power for 41 |
| 11 | | years until he retired; he ventured into business ownership |
| 12 | | and became the owner of multiple businesses; he established a |
| 13 | | corporation with his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and |
| 14 | | Harry, and opened his first restaurant, THB, in 1991; he later |
| 15 | | opened Jalyrih's Grill, which became a corporation in 2011; |
| 16 | | his businesses hosted community events and family gatherings |
| 17 | | and served as a source of employment for family and community |
| 18 | | neighbors; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Cliff was a dedicated member of the Church |
| 20 | | of the Living God CWFF and an exalted ruler of the Elks for |
| 21 | | numerous years; he enjoyed playing bingo and listening to the |
| 22 | | blues in his spare time; he was a loving father, grandfather, |
