SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Charles Allan "Lanny" Lutz of Los
4Angeles, California, who passed away on January 5th, 2021 at
5the age of 79; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz was born to Ruth Flarida Lutz and
7Allan Barr Lutz in Washington D.C. on January 1, 1942; for a
8short time after the war, the family lived in Birmingham,
9Michigan; they ultimately settled in Darien, Connecticut; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz was a talented high school athlete; he
11won multiple sailing races on Long Island Sound; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In 1964, Lanny Lutz earned a bachelor's degree in
13English from Yale University; he pursued his passion for
14acting in Yale's theater program; all the while, he also won
15awards for his piano playing skills; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz's fluency and interest in the French
17language led him to take a yearlong leave of absence from Yale;
18during a subsequent overseas trip to France, he met Katia
19Brillie; the two were married in Paris; and
 
20    WHEREAS, After Lanny Lutz moved to New York City in 1967,

1his daughter, Natalie Cebčle, was born; he also dedicated
2himself to full-time acting; soon, the family relocated to
3London so that Lanny could study at the acclaimed Royal
4Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA); and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz earned an Honours Diploma from RADA
6and was bestowed with the Bancroft Gold Medal; one of his
7memorable performances included the title role in Tartuffe; he
8even earned praise from the Canadian actress and writer
9Alexandra Sellers; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In 1971, after graduation from RADA, Lanny Lutz
11lived in New York City and Los Angeles; his second-to-last
12destination was in the Chicago area, specifically Oak Park,
13which he called home for more than 20 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz was instrumental in the development of
15a thriving theater scene in Oak Park; he founded the
16Black-White Dialogue with Gerald Clay in 1996 and was a member
17of the Oak Park Festival Theater's Board of Directors; in his
18capacity with the latter organization, he played the lead role
19in All My Sons in 2005; one year later, he reprised his role
20from Tartuffe; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz founded a contractor's reference
22service entitled Lanny's List; and

1    WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz was a member of the Actors' Equity
2Association and the Screen Actors Guild/American Federation of
3Television and Radio Artists; he was briefly featured in the
4movie, Batman: the Dark Knight; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz was also a wine connoisseur and an
618-wheeler truck driver; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz was preceded in death by his parents,
8Ruth and Allan Lutz; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lanny Lutz is survived by his daughter, Natalie
10Lutz; his ex-wife, Katia Lutz; his grandchildren, Loic
11Tatischeff and Magalie Tatischeff; his sister, Carolyn Gibson;
12his nephew, Ian Gibson; his niece, Elizabeth (Liz) Gibson; and
13his dear friend from Oak Park, Janet Bohler; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Charles Allan "Lanny" Lutz and extend our sincere condolences
17to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
18it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Lanny Lutz as an expression of our
