|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Bennett C. Weaver of Oak Park, who |
4 | | passed away on July 14, 2021 at the age of 80; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Bennett Weaver was born to J. Clark and Inez |
6 | | Koegel Weaver in Denton, Texas on November 9, 1940; he was |
7 | | raised in Denton, Texas and Gainesville, Florida; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, At five years old, Bennett Weaver was introduced |
9 | | to the cello at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, where his |
10 | | parents also ran a summer theater program; he was revealed to |
11 | | be a musical genius; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Bennett Weaver joined the University of Florida |
13 | | Symphony Orchestra as a middle schooler; by freshman year of |
14 | | high school, he was already promoted to first chair; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Bennett Weaver began his post-secondary studies |
16 | | at Swarthmore College of Pennsylvania on a music scholarship; |
17 | | he later transferred to the University of Florida at |
18 | | Gainesville to study physics; he continued to practice cello |
19 | | and ultimately met his first wife, Donna Harpold; the two |
20 | | married in Bradenton, Florida in 1964; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Bennett Weaver's first daughter, Amy, was born in |
2 | | 1966 in Gainesville; shortly thereafter, the family moved to |
3 | | Illinois so that both parents could pursue careers at St. Mary |
4 | | of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago; his second daughter, Susan, |
5 | | was born in Oak Park in 1970; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Beginning in the late 1960s, Bennett Weaver |
7 | | assumed professional roles as an actuary and analyst; he was |
8 | | employed by CNA Insurance and retired from Harris Bank in |
9 | | 2001; during retirement, he also worked as a consultant and |
10 | | family genealogist; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Through a 1980s purchase of an IBM PC for his |
12 | | home, Bennett Weaver discovered a second natural talent for |
13 | | building and upgrading computers; in 1983, he became a |
14 | | founding member of the Association of Personal Computer Users |
15 | | (APCU); he also joined the Chicago Area Database Users Group |
16 | | (CADBUG); he held leadership roles in both organizations; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Bennett Weaver had a knack for explaining complex |
18 | | ideas in simple terms to his daughters, such as moon phases and |
19 | | lunar eclipses; for several years, he served as their Girl |
20 | | Scout cookie salesman; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Bennett Weaver is survived by his companion, |
22 | | Cheryl McNamara; his friend and former wife, Donna Weaver; and |
|

1 | | his daughters, Amy Weaver and Susan (Russ) Northrup; |
2 | | therefore, be it

3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
5 | | Bennett C. Weaver and extend our sincere condolences to his |
6 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
7 | | further

8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
9 | | presented to the family of Bennett C. Weaver as an expression |
10 | | of our deepest sympathy.
