SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Lieutenant Colonel Bernard "Bernie"
4Goulet Sr. (Ret.) of Springfield, who passed away on November
516, 2021; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Bernie Goulet was born to Joseph and Clara (Neef)
7Goulet in Springfield on April 22, 1931; he served in the U.S.
8Army during the Korean War, where he survived the Chosin
9Reservoir and earned a Bronze Star for Heroism in Ground
10Combat, the Purple Heart, the Legion of Merit, the Combat
11Infantry Badge, and the U.N. Korean Service Medal; he married
12Barbara Geary in 1956, and they celebrated 53 years of
13marriage before she preceded him in death in 2010; he earned
14his master's degree in Business from Sangamon State
15University, which is now the University of Illinois
16Springfield; he graduated from the U.S. Army Command and
17General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Bernie Goulet worked at the U.S. Post Office and
19the Springfield Army Reserve, where he retired as a lieutenant
20colonel; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Bernie Goulet was a member of the Christ the King
22Parish, American Legion Post 32, Disabled American Veterans

1(D.A.V.), and the Retired Officers Association; he enjoyed
2music thoroughly, singing in the church choir, the Muni, Mob
3on the Road, and Mature Mob until his late 80s; he was an avid
4gardener and a voracious reader; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bernie Goulet was a wise, loving, and honorable
6man; he was a true patriarch to his family; he will be missed;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Bernie Goulet was preceded in death by his first
9wife, two brothers, and four sisters; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bernie Goulet is survived by his wife, Velma Neal
11Goulet; his sons, Bernie (Karen) Goulet Jr. and Matt (Tamara)
12Goulet; his daughters, Ellen (Steve) Siadek and Diane (Wes)
13Fisher; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
14nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Lieutenant Colonel Bernard "Bernie" Goulet Sr. and extend our
18sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
19and loved him; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Bernie Goulet as an expression of
