SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Sister Edna E. McNelty, who passed
4away on December 22, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sister McNelty was born to Warnella Sweet (Lee)
6Crossley and Peter Hubert Crossley in Summit, Mississippi on
7July 29, 1929; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Sister McNelty was the First Lady of the First
9Baptist Church of Melrose Park for 42 years; she assisted the
10church's H. McNelty School in various ways during her tenure,
11including overseeing the construction of the pre-school in
121990 and the addition of a high school, which featured an
13auditorium, educational labs, an atrium garden, and a state of
14the art media center; she later joined United Baptist Church
15in Chicago, where she continued to serve others and worked
16diligently to ensure that others had food and clothing; in her
17final years, she connected with Rock of Ages Baptist Church in
18Maywood; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Sister McNelty retired from the Department of
20Health and the Department of Human Services Social Security
21Administration after 22 years of service; and

1    WHEREAS, Sister McNelty was deeply committed to her faith;
2she will be remembered as an extremely talented individual who
3supported her family, church, and friends; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Sister McNelty was preceded in death by her
5parents; her husband, Pastor H. McNelty; her brothers, Ellzey
6Crossley, Jewell Crossley, Paul Hubert Crossley, and Mike
7(Linda) Crossley; her sisters, Lonnie (Pete) Mae Tucker,
8Roberta (Clinton) Williams, Eva Moore, and Evangelist Lucinda
9(Vodie) Savage; her sister-in-law, Ann Crossley; and her
10godson, Wilburn Robinson; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Sister McNelty is survived by her son, Michael
12(Mary); her granddaughter, Tawanda; her sisters, Joyce
13McSpadden, Clara Crossley, and Theresa Crossley; her
14sister-in-law, Inez Crossley; her brother, Lonnie Melvin
15Crossley; her brother-in-law, Willie Frank Moore; her
16goddaughters, Anita Perkins-Tate and Benita Edwards; her
17godsons, Cleo McSpadden, Charlie McSpadden, and Shaun
18Mayberry; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces,
19great-nephews, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Sister Edna E. McNelty and extend our sincere condolences to
23her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
