SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Charles "Chuck" Anderson, a resident
4of Maywood for 75 years, who passed away in late November of
52021; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Charles Anderson was an educator for 32 years;
7for the majority of those years, he worked at Proviso East High
8School, which was his high school alma mater; he began his
9teaching career at Emerson School in Maywood and taught for a
10short time in Chicago Public Schools; he taught physical
11education and was a football and wrestling coach at Proviso
12East; as assistant dean, he was one of the first Black
13administrators at Proviso East and served for four years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Charles Anderson was co-owner with his wife of
15the Che-Lis Ice Cream parlor, named after his two oldest
16daughters, located in downtown Maywood on Fifth Avenue;
17additionally, he was the co-owner with his stepfather of Minor &
18 Sons Auto Body & Repair shop, located on 13th and St. Charles
19Avenue in Maywood; he also owned apartment buildings in
20Maywood for over fifty years; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Charles Anderson was one of the founding members
22of the Maywood Recreation Center and was instrumental in

1starting its afterschool mentoring program in the early 1970s;
2he was a member of the prominent social club, The Maywood
3Horsemen, a group known for hosting parties, local
4fundraising, and sponsoring youth activities, such as the
5Baseball Little League in the community; and
 
6    WHEREAS, After retiring from teaching, Charles Anderson
7dedicated more of his time as a public servant and served as a
8village trustee for three terms; following his final term as a
9trustee, he became chairman of the Board of the Fire and Police
10Commission for several years; he served as a member and former
11chairman of the Maywood Rotary Club and was a member of the
12Masonic Jeptha Lodge #90 PHA of Maywood; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Charles Anderson spent his life uplifting and
14educating others and became a mentor to numerous young men and
15former students throughout the years; he lived life to the
16fullest and deeply enjoyed spending time with family and
17friends; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Charles Anderson is survived by his three
19daughters, Cheryl, LisaMarea, and Daphne Anderson; his two
20sisters, Glenda Minor and Vonnie Rene Anderson; his nieces and
21nephews; his cousins; and his extended family members and
22friends; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Charles "Chuck" Anderson and extend our sincere condolences to
4his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Charles Anderson as an expression
8of our deepest sympathy.
