SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Sister Marianna Kosior O.S.F. of the
4Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, who passed away on December
511, 2021; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Sister Marianna, the former Gloria Kosior, was
7born to Albert and Anne Skrabala Kosior in Whiting, Indiana on
8August 4, 1922; she entered the Congregation on September 8,
91943 and professed her vows on June 13, 1946; she received a
10Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics from Fontbonne College
11in 1949 followed by an internship in Dietetics at St. Mary's
12Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota; she earned a master's degree
13in Administration from Notre Dame University in 1981; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Sister Marianna served as a dietitian at HSHS
15hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin early in her career; she
16was the administrator of St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in
17Effingham from 1962 to 1968 and served as administrator of St.
18Mary's Hospital in Decatur from 1968 to 1969; she served the
19Province as a provincial councilor and provincial superior
20from 1969 to 1979; she founded Hospital Sisters Health System
21in 1978 and served as executive vice president from 1979 to
221980 when she assumed the role of president until 1989; she was
23also the convent librarian for many years and retired from

1active ministry in 2016; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Sister Mariana was preceded in death by her
3parents; her brother, James Kosior; and her two sisters,
4Loraine Duray and Rose Marie Koopman; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sister Marianna is survived by her brother,
6Albert Kosior; her niece and nephew; and her Franciscan
7Sisters with whom she shared her life for over 77 years;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Sister Marianna Kosior O.S.F. and extend our sincere
12condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
13her; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Sister Marianna as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
