|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Emma Doris "Dot" Amos, who passed away |
4 | | on October 12, 2021; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Emma Amos was born in Grenada County, Mississippi |
6 | | to James and Elizabeth (Brown) Lincoln on September 21, 1938; |
7 | | she attended Grenada High School, where she sang in the school |
8 | | choir and, during her first year, received a musical |
9 | | scholarship to study voice at Campbell College in Jackson, |
10 | | Mississippi; after two years, she returned to Grenada High |
11 | | School, where she continued to sing with the school choir and |
12 | | often had the honor of singing live on the town's local radio |
13 | | station; she also played basketball her senior year; she |
14 | | graduated in 1956 with honors as salutatorian and attended |
15 | | Jackson State College; she was married to Ralph L. Nichols Sr. |
16 | | from 1956 until 1959, and they had one son together; she later |
17 | | married Booker T. "Earl" Amos in 1962, and they had four |
18 | | children together; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Emma Amos was employed as a bus driver for 25 |
20 | | years at the Crawford Bus Company in Lockport; she was later |
21 | | employed as a kitchen staff member with the River Valley |
22 | | Juvenile Detention Center in Joliet, retiring at the age of 62 |
23 | | after four years of service; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Emma Amos loved flowers and was a seasoned |
2 | | gardener; she loved reading and listening to all types of |
3 | | music; she collected all types of dolls and ceramic figurines; |
4 | | she loved all sports and knew more about the teams than most of |
5 | | the commentators; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Emma Amos loved family, and her house served as a |
7 | | revolving door for nieces, nephews, and extended family who |
8 | | called it home whenever needed; she and her sister, Vivian, |
9 | | helped raise each other's children and spoke to each other |
10 | | nearly every day throughout their lives, and her grandson, |
11 | | D'Ante Amos, lived with her during his teenage years and was |
12 | | thought of as her youngest child; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Emma Amos was preceded in death by her parents; |
14 | | her husband, Booker T. Amos; her brother-in-law, Lee Mister |
15 | | Sr.; and her nephew, Lee Mister Jr.; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Emma Amos is survived by her sister, Vivian |
17 | | Mister; her children, Ralph L. (Leslie) Nichols Jr., Erroll |
18 | | (Phyllis), Rhonda E. (Bill) Bruton, Erland, and Ronald |
19 | | (Nichol); her stepdaughter, Shannon (Wesley); her nieces and |
20 | | nephews, Dannette (Ollie) Walker, Reginald Mister, and Joyce |
21 | | Mister; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous |
22 | | nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
3 | | Emma Doris "Dot" Amos and extend our sincere condolences to |
4 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
5 | | further
|
6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Emma Amos as an expression of our |
8 | | deepest sympathy.
