| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The process of manufacturing includes the | ||||||
3 | mechanical, physical, or chemical transformation of materials, | ||||||
4 | substances, or components into new products and involves | ||||||
5 | establishments such as plants, factories, and mills; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The definition of manufacturing extends to | ||||||
7 | establishments that transform materials into new products | ||||||
8 | engaged in distribution to the general public such as | ||||||
9 | bakeries, candy stores, and tailors; and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The manufacturing industry has provided many | ||||||
11 | contributions to the State and nation; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, The manufacturing sector employs 550,000 workers | ||||||
13 | across the State of Illinois and produces $108 billion in | ||||||
14 | total output; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, The manufacturing sector comprises approximately | ||||||
16 | 78% of total production in the United States; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Manufacturing is an ever-evolving sector that | ||||||
18 | affects the wellness of any economy; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Illinois manufacturers have played a significant |

1 | role in empowering Illinois communities through the production | ||||||
2 | of medical supplies since the inception of COVID-19, and they | ||||||
3 | continue to provide support to the State and larger national | ||||||
4 | network; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has made investments to | ||||||
6 | bolster the manufacturing industry and prepare communities for | ||||||
7 | its future growth under Governor Pritzker; and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, We are now entering the fourth industrial | ||||||
9 | revolution, where new discoveries in artificial intelligence, | ||||||
10 | robotics, technology, and genetics will result in dramatic | ||||||
11 | changes to how we live and work; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Manufacturing careers in the 21st century will | ||||||
13 | also feature clean energy; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Illinois should continue to provide the tools and | ||||||
15 | skills that our diverse workforce will need to succeed in the | ||||||
16 | new jobs of the future; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Manufacturing must become a rewarding and | ||||||
18 | attractive career for younger workers, non-traditional | ||||||
19 | students, and previously underrepresented groups; and

20 | WHEREAS, National Manufacturing Month brings much needed |

| |||||||
1 | awareness to the challenges the industry faces by encouraging | ||||||
2 | manufacturers and organizations to address current | ||||||
3 | shortcomings and prepare for its development; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, National Manufacturing Month acknowledges and | ||||||
5 | thanks the work of manufacturers and the individuals that | ||||||
6 | operate them; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, A number of states observe Manufacturing Day | ||||||
8 | throughout the month of October, including California, New | ||||||
9 | York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Ohio, some of the | ||||||
10 | largest manufacturing states in the country; therefore, be it
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare October | ||||||
13 | 2021 as "Manufacturing Month" in the State of Illinois; and be | ||||||
14 | it further

15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the Illinois Manufacturers' Association as a | ||||||
17 | symbol of our respect and esteem.
