SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, Hinduism is the third largest religion in the 
3world with more than one billion followers worldwide, six 
4million in the United States, and over 250,000 in Illinois; 
5and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Illinois is proud of its rich cultural history 
7and the many people who call our state home; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Illinois is home to a vibrant Hindu community 
9that has established 38 temples in Illinois, with the largest 
10being the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago that hosts many 
11significant cultural events for the community throughout the 
12year; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Hindu Americans have made significant 
14contributions across all fields, including science, education, 
15medicine, law, politics, business, culture, sports, and more; 
16and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Hindu heritage, culture, traditions, and values 
18have enriched our great state; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, During the month of October 2021, the Hindu 
20community across the State of Illinois and across our nation

1will collectively celebrate Hindu heritage; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, Hindu Heritage Month provides an opportunity to 
3focus on Hindu culture and its diverse spiritual traditions 
4rooted in India; therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL 
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare October of 
72021 as Hindu Heritage Month in the State of Illinois and 
8extend greetings and best wishes to all those observing 
9October 2021 as Hindu Heritage Month.
