2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Preston Humphrey Jr. of St. Louis, |
4 | | Missouri, who passed away on August 31, 2021; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Preston Humphrey Jr. was born on May 29, 1972; he |
6 | | earned his Juris Doctor from Washington University in St. |
7 | | Louis School of Law in 1997; he lived in the Soulard |
8 | | neighborhood of St. Louis; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Preston Humphrey Jr. was serving as the federal |
10 | | public defender for the southern district of Illinois at the |
11 | | time of his passing; he was formally appointed to that role in |
12 | | August 2020; prior to that, he served as the first assistant |
13 | | public defender; before joining the public defender's office, |
14 | | he served in private practice for years; he was noted by his |
15 | | peers for being an outstanding attorney who fought valiantly |
16 | | for his clients; and

17 | | WHEREAS, Preston Humphrey Jr. was a big fan of the St. |
18 | | Louis Cardinals and an avid darts player; he was active in |
19 | | Mardi Gras events in Soulard; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Preston Humphrey Jr. was a son, a brother, and a |
21 | | friend; he was known for his wit, humor, and loyalty; he will |
