|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Jeffrey Gene Givens of Peoria, who |
4 | | passed away on June 24, 2021; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Jeffrey Givens was born in Peoria to Homer "Al" |
6 | | Givens and Bertha L. (Kickel) Givens on April 22, 1945; he |
7 | | attended Princeville schools and graduated in 1963; from his |
8 | | first marriage, he had two daughters; he married Paula J. |
9 | | Applegate on March 15, 2019; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Jeffrey Givens joined his father's business, |
11 | | Givens Machine Co. Inc., where he served as a worker, partner, |
12 | | and owner for 43 years; he retired in 2006; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Jeffrey Givens was a member of the |
14 | | Akron-Princeville Volunteer Fire Department; he also held a |
15 | | special deputies commission from the Peoria County Sheriff's |
16 | | Department for several years; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Jeffrey Givens was interested in nature and |
18 | | history; he was a member of several plant and animal |
19 | | societies, mostly natural plants of Illinois, and helped |
20 | | create several natural prairies in central Illinois; he |
21 | | studied his family history and was a member of the Sons of the |
|

1 | | American Revolution, the Sons of the War of 1812, the Sons of |
2 | | Union Veterans of the Civil War, and the Sons of Confederate |
3 | | Veterans; he was the first camp commander of the Sons of Union |
4 | | Veterans of the Civil War post in Peoria; he also joined |
5 | | several reenactor groups and gave talks to schools and |
6 | | historical groups about the Civil War era; he was a lifelong |
7 | | member of the Princeville Masonic Lodge #360, where he |
8 | | achieved 32nd degree in the Scottish Rite; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Jeffrey Givens enjoyed hiking, camping, |
10 | | backpacking, mountain climbing, bird watching, traditional |
11 | | archery shooting, skeet shooting, competitive pistol shooting, |
12 | | muzzleloading, and spending time outdoors; he studied |
13 | | different martial arts and finally attained a 4th-degree black |
14 | | belt in Japanese Wado Ryu Karate; he then taught karate for |
15 | | many years; he also developed an interest in music, mostly |
16 | | older folk music, and learned to play banjo and guitar; after |
17 | | obtaining and putting back together his grandfather Ellis |
18 | | Givens' fiddle, he learned how to play at the age of 73; he |
19 | | enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Jeffrey Givens was preceded in death by his |
21 | | parents; and
|
22 | | WHEREAS, Jeffrey Givens is survived by his wife, Paula; |
23 | | his sister, Sally (Richard) Cloyd; his brother, Erik Givens |

1 | | (Deb); his daughters, Carrie Louise Givens (fiancé, Roger |
2 | | Monke) and Jennifer Marie (James) Curtis; his grandchildren, |
3 | | Olivia Ruth Combs, Taylor Marie Roberson, and Jeffrey James |
4 | | Curtis; and his Westie, Holly; therefore, be it

5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
6 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
7 | | Jeffrey Gene Givens and extend our sincere condolences to his |
8 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
9 | | further

10 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
11 | | presented to the family of Jeffrey Givens as an expression of |
12 | | our deepest sympathy.
