2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of William "Bill" Cassens of Quincy, |
4 | | formerly of Golden, who passed away on June 14, 2021; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Bill Cassens was born in Golden to John W. and |
6 | | Bertha (Leenerts) Cassens on July 13, 1927; he attended Golden |
7 | | High School; he married Rose Marie Ideus at Trinity Lutheran |
8 | | Church in Golden on February 27, 1949, and she preceded him in |
9 | | death on September 18, 2018; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Bill Cassens was an insurance salesman for |
11 | | Country Companies before retiring after 33 years of service; |
12 | | during his career, he was awarded many All-American and |
13 | | All-Star trips; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, After retirement, Bill Cassens served as an Adams |
15 | | County Assessor for Northeast Township; he also inspected |
16 | | homes and farms for Carthage Mutual and Camp Point Mutual; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Bill Cassens was very active in his church and |
18 | | community; he was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran |
19 | | Church, where he served as a council member and on the |
20 | | cemetery, property, and other committees; he was a founding |
21 | | board member of the Golden Historical Society and a chairman |

1 | | of the Centennial Celebration in Golden; he also served as a |
2 | | trustee on the Golden Village Board; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Bill Cassens enjoyed gardening and tending his |
4 | | fishpond, which was a favorite of his grandchildren and |
5 | | great-grandchildren; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Bill Cassens was preceded in death by his |
7 | | parents; his wife, Rose Marie; his brother, Monroe Cassens; |
8 | | his brothers-in-law, Richard Chapman, Lawrence Leenerts, |
9 | | Vernon Ideus, and Irwin Ideus; and his sisters-in-law, Lucille |
10 | | Cassens, Dorothy Cassens, Geneva Leenerts-Gronewold, Velma |
11 | | Chapman, and Ruth Ideus; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Bill Cassens is survived by his sons, Bruce |
13 | | (Sharon) Cassens, Mark (Sandy) Cassens, Dennis (Mary Jo) |
14 | | Cassens, and John (Diane) Cassens; his grandchildren, Rob |
15 | | (Betsy) Cassens, Ryan (Jennifer) Cassens, Whitney (Jason) |
16 | | Mehaffy, Brent Cassens, Suzanne Cassens, Greg (Hannah) |
17 | | Cassens, Chad (Gretchen) Nelson, Holly Jo Nelson, Tyler |
18 | | (Ainsley) Cassens, Courtney Cassens, Alexandria Cassens, and |
19 | | Nicholas Cassens; his 16 great-grandchildren; his |
20 | | brother-in-law, Jerry (Sharon) Ideus; and his several nieces |
21 | | and nephews; therefore, be it
