2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of David Alan "Dave" Swickard of | ||||||
4 | Rochester, formerly of Charleston, who passed away on April | ||||||
5 | 10, 2021; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Dave Swickard was born in Charleston to John W. | ||||||
7 | and Ruth (Harper) Swickard on February 14, 1933; he served in | ||||||
8 | the U.S. Army during the Korean War; he married Alice Jayne | ||||||
9 | Morris in Lawrenceville on August 17, 1958; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Dave Swickard worked as a licensed funeral | ||||||
11 | director and embalmer alongside his grandparents, Sam and | ||||||
12 | Lenna Harper, his parents, and his brother, Stephen Swickard, | ||||||
13 | in the family business, Harper-Swickard Funeral Home, for more | ||||||
14 | than five decades; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Dave Swickard served as Coles County Coroner for | ||||||
16 | one term; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Dave Swickard was a life member of Paul McVey | ||||||
18 | V.F.W. Post #1592; he started playing taps for veterans' | ||||||
19 | funerals beginning in high school, and he continued until he | ||||||
20 | retired; he was a 32nd degree mason with the Charleston | ||||||
21 | Masonic Lodge #35 A.F. & A.M.; he was a member, past president, |

1 | and a Paul Harris Fellow of the Charleston Rotary Club; he | ||||||
2 | provided his motor home and was chauffeur for the president of | ||||||
3 | Rotary International while he was touring Central Illinois; he | ||||||
4 | was a member of the Coles County Barbershoppers and Wesley | ||||||
5 | United Methodist Church Chancel Choir for many years; he was a | ||||||
6 | longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church and a | ||||||
7 | current member of the First United Methodist Church of | ||||||
8 | Springfield; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Dave Swickard was honored to serve families | ||||||
10 | during their times of grief, and he was able to balance that | ||||||
11 | responsibility with being active in the community and | ||||||
12 | completely devoted to his family; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Dave Swickard was preceded in death by his | ||||||
14 | parents and his brothers, John Swickard Jr. and Stephen S. | ||||||
15 | Swickard; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Dave Swickard is survived by his wife; his | ||||||
17 | children, Laura (Paul) Worrall and Reverend Dr. Robert A. | ||||||
18 | (Gina) Swickard; his six grandchildren and seven | ||||||
19 | great-grandchildren, with another due in August; his brother, | ||||||
20 | James H. (Nancy) Swickard; and his sisters-in-law, Phyllis | ||||||
21 | Swickard and Shirley Swickard; therefore, be it

22 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |

1 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
2 | David Alan "Dave" Swickard and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
3 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
4 | it further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of Dave Swickard as an expression of | ||||||
7 | our deepest sympathy.
