SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Whereas, the Covid-19 virus has wreaked havoc
3across Illinois, and decisions made in response to this crisis
4have unduly jeopardized the employment status of thousands,
5left our State’s children unable to attend school, and
6decimated our local economies, causing untold negative impacts
7in the lives of all residents, including women; and
 
8    WHEREAS, 35 million mothers are part of the United States'
9workforce; and
 
10    WHEREAS, 58% of high risk occupations are comprised of
11women; these occupations include teachers, nurses, and
12doctors; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In the beginning of 2020, before the pandemic
14struck, women constituted 50.04% of the workforce in the
15United States; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Women in Illinois own 417,000 firms and
17companies; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Women bear a disproportionate burden of household
19and childcare tasks; mothers are more likely than fathers to
20spend an extra 20 hours per week on housework and child care

1during the Covid-19 pandemic; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Unemployment for women during the height of the
3Covid-19 pandemic reached 15.8%; and
 
4    WHEREAS, As a result of the Covid-19 Pandemic, 23% of
5women with children under the age of 10 are considering
6leaving the workforce, and 18% of women with children of all
7ages are considering leaving the workforce; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the General
10Assembly and the Governor to invest the money received through
11the American Rescue Plan Act to encourage women to return to
12the work force and to help stimulate the growth of women in the
13workforce, and particularly, we urge the Child Care Funds be
14used to help fund child care and make it easily accessible for
15working mothers.
