2 | | WHEREAS, Whereas, the Covid-19 virus has wreaked havoc |
3 | | across Illinois, and decisions made in response to this crisis |
4 | | have unduly jeopardized the employment status of thousands, |
5 | | left our State’s children unable to attend school, and |
6 | | decimated our local economies, causing untold negative impacts |
7 | | in the lives of all residents, including women; and

8 | | WHEREAS, 35 million mothers are part of the United States' |
9 | | workforce; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, 58% of high risk occupations are comprised of |
11 | | women; these occupations include teachers, nurses, and |
12 | | doctors; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, In the beginning of 2020, before the pandemic |
14 | | struck, women constituted 50.04% of the workforce in the |
15 | | United States; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Women in Illinois own 417,000 firms and |
17 | | companies; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Women bear a disproportionate burden of household |
19 | | and childcare tasks; mothers are more likely than fathers to |
20 | | spend an extra 20 hours per week on housework and child care |
