SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donald "Don" M. Hoover of Moline, who passed away on March 21, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Don Hoover was born to George A. and Mildred R. Jordan Hoover in Moline on December 2, 1935; he graduated from Alleman High School in 1954 and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves; he later entered active duty in the Marine Corps, where he honorably served in Japan, the Philippine Islands, and Puerto Rico; he earned the rank of sergeant at the time of his discharge in 1958; he married Carol Jean Mirr in Moline on August 17, 1957; and

WHEREAS, Don Hoover began working for John Deere Harvester Works in 1959; he retired as a supervisor in 1985; following his retirement, he began his own business as a general contractor from which he retired in 2014; and

WHEREAS, In 1976, Don Hoover built a new home, and the family moved to Rustic Acres near Colona, where he served on the board of the lake association; in earlier years, he was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, and a member and an officer for the Willow Springs Swim Club; he was also a member of the Mississippi Valley Antique Car Club; and

WHEREAS, Don Hoover enjoyed antique cars, traveling, family card games, bowling, and dancing with his wife; he was also interested in history and geography; he served as the family's Jack of all Trades whenever needed; he never met a stranger and enjoyed sharing his sense of humor with all; and

WHEREAS, Don Hoover was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, George and Julia Hoover; his mother and stepfather, Mildred and Paul Schnell; his brother, Roger; and his grandparents; and

WHEREAS, Don Hoover is survived by his wife, Carol Jean; his children, Tamara "Tammy" (Norman) Pearson, Lisa (Jeff) Day, Cynthia "Cindy" Brown (Kurt Hendrickson), Monica Bottom, Jennifer "Jenny" (Jeff) Hoogerwerf, and Jay (Noelle) Hoover; his grandchildren, Josh and Jake Pearson, Aimee, Erik, and Ian Butterworth, Ashley and Missi Brown, Rachel and Nicole Bottom, Jennaca Hollinger, Tyler and Tess Hoogerwerf, Autumn Sender, and Sydney and Hunter Hoover; his great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jack, Ethan, Rowan, and Teigen; his sisters-in-law, Janet Robinson, Betty Dies, and Marge Mirr; his brother-in-law, Dale (Lana) Mirr; his nieces and nephews; and his additional family and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Donald "Don" M. Hoover and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Don Hoover as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
