SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Scott Holtan of Coal Valley, formerly of Thor, Iowa, who passed away on March 7, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Scott Holtan was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Roger and Lois Holtan on October 2, 1958; he graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1977, where he was involved in music and plays; he joined the U.S. Navy after graduation and served aboard the submarines USS Lewis and Clark and USS Francis Scott Key for six years; he married Barbara Fritz in 1982, and they later divorced; he married Anne Raymond in 2000; and

WHEREAS, Scott Holtan worked in computer repair and customer service for 37 years; most recently, he provided support at John Deere locations through Cognizant IT Solutions; and

WHEREAS, Scott Holtan raised two autistic sons, Ryan and Tyler; he always wore autism awareness t-shirts to spread awareness on a daily basis and supported the Royal Ball Run for Autism; and

WHEREAS, Scott Holtan had a passion for serving others; he volunteered every Saturday in the food pantry at All Saints Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa, where he was a member for over 25 years; he never met a stranger and always had a smile or joke; and

WHEREAS, Scott Holtan was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Julie Anna Holtan-Taylor; his brother, Randy Holtan; his infant siblings, Sara Louise, Angela Kaye, and Thomas Scott Holtan; and his grandparents, Rev. Halvor and Inger Bakke and Gilman and Edna Holtan; and

WHEREAS, Scott Holtan is survived by his wife, Anne; his sons, Ryan and Tyler; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ron and Marilyn Raymond; his sister, Maria (Kurt) Olson; his sisters-in-law, Linda Holtan, Amy (Douglas) Zdansky, and Alissa (Martin) Oliva; his brother-in-law, AJ Taylor; his aunts and uncles, Mark (Shirley) Holtan, Tim (Dixie Long) Holtan, and Bonnie Holtan; his nieces and nephews, Alissa (Mike) Williamson, Brittany (Andy) Struecker, Craig (Lolly) Olson, Adam (Megan) Olson, Connor and Cody Holtan, Jakoby Veronda, Alec (Alli) Veronda, and Emilio, Audi, and Ella Oliva; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Scarlett, Julia, Walker, Autumn, Anna, Jackson, Ryker, Eden, and Carter; and many cousins and special friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Scott Holtan and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Scott Holtan as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
