|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Carter Joseph Russell Sr., who passed |
| 4 | | away on March 19, 2021; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Carter Russell Sr. was born to Julius and Nanette |
| 6 | | Russell in Chicago on October 29, 1929; he was raised in the |
| 7 | | Morgan Park area and attended Sherwood Elementary and |
| 8 | | Inglewood High School; he married Delores M. Hodges, and |
| 9 | | together they had eight children; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Carter Russell Sr. retired from the Chicago |
| 11 | | Bridge and Iron Company after 43 years of service; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Carter Russell Sr. raised his family in the |
| 13 | | Catholic Church and was an active parishioner; in his early |
| 14 | | years, he was a member of Holy Name of Mary Church; after |
| 15 | | moving to the Chatham area, he joined St. Joachim Church; |
| 16 | | while at St. Joachim, he loved to sing in the choir, served in |
| 17 | | the Holy Name Men's Organization, and received several awards |
| 18 | | for his acts of service; he gave many hours in support of |
| 19 | | fundraising events, such as the Fish Fries, Barbeque Dinners, |
| 20 | | Pancake Breakfasts, and the Women's Annual Fashion Show; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Carter Russell Sr. was a hard worker and very |
|

| 1 | | handy and made a hobby of rehabbing houses; he had a love for |
| 2 | | jazz music, enjoyed cooking, and was known for his dance |
| 3 | | moves; he had an infectious smile and was always willing to |
| 4 | | lend a helping hand whenever needed; he was a loyal friend to |
| 5 | | many and a true servant to his church and community; he |
| 6 | | cherished spending time with family; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Carter Russell Sr. was preceded in death by his |
| 8 | | parents; his siblings, Tuson, Hiram, Elizabeth, Marie, Eunice, |
| 9 | | and Julius; and two great-grandchildren; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Carter Russell Sr. is survived by his eight |
| 11 | | children, Carter, Terrie, Carlotta, Carl, Tanya, Clifford, |
| 12 | | Courtney, and Theresa; his four daughters-in-law; his 19 |
| 13 | | grandchildren; his 28 great-grandchildren; his five |
| 14 | | great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Lillian; his nieces and |
| 15 | | nephews; his cousins; and his friends; therefore, be it
|
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
| 17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 18 | | Carter Joseph Russell Sr. and extend our sincere condolences |
| 19 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
| 20 | | it further
|
| 21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 | | presented to the family of Carter Russell Sr. as an expression |
