2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Rosie Lee Peterson; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Rosie Peterson was born in Ripley, Mississippi to |
5 | | Judy Adams and Joe Peterson on March 7, 1937; near the end of |
6 | | the Great Depression, her parents moved the family to |
7 | | Middleton, Tennessee; she attended school part time while |
8 | | helping her family tend to their farm through the lean years of |
9 | | World War II and migrated to Chicago when she was 18; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Rosie Peterson worked in housekeeping at |
11 | | McCormick Place, as a senior care worker, and as a domestic |
12 | | home worker for several families; in the late 1990s, she took a |
13 | | job in security for the City of Chicago's Department of |
14 | | General Services, where she worked until she retired in 2008; |
15 | | and

16 | | WHEREAS, Rosie Peterson hosted big holiday dinners and |
17 | | weekend sleep-overs for her nieces and nephews; she was an |
18 | | exceptional cook and prepared grand feasts for her family, |
19 | | neighbors, and friends; she enjoyed playing cards and dancing |
20 | | and was a passionate fan of Chicago blues; and

21 | | WHEREAS, Rosie Peterson was strong willed, fiercely |
