SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Richard "Dick" D. Green of Champaign,
4who passed away on March 4, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dick Green was born to James Green and Mae Oler in
6Rhodes, Iowa on March 30, 1935; he graduated from Ames High
7School in 1953; he received his Bachelor of Science from Iowa
8State University in 1957; following graduation, he served in
9the U.S. Army in El Paso, Texas; in 1959, he enrolled at the
10University of Iowa and earned his master's degree in hospital
11administration in 1961; he married Carol Ann Garland that same
12year; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In 1961, Dick Green began his health care career
14in St. Joseph, Missouri; in 1971, the family moved to
15Champaign, where he began his career with Carle Clinic as
16administrative director; after a dedicated 27-year career with
17Carle, he retired in 1998 as chief operating officer; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dick Green held many leadership positions with
19the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) during his
20career and received distinguished recognition for his service,
21including a Carle Cornerstone Award in 2020 for his
22contributions to the organization; and

1    WHEREAS, Dick Green was a 30-year board member of the
2Salvation Army and also served on boards with the Chamber of
3Commerce, the Champaign Country Club, and St. Thomas
4University; he served as president of the Central High School
5PTA and vice president of the Edison Middle School PTA; he was
6a member of Kiwanis and the Shriners; he was also a committed
7member of First Presbyterian Church of Champaign, where he
8served as a deacon, elder, trustee, and choir member; he
9volunteered as a coach in Little League, served as a swim meet
10official, and was a lifelong blood donor in Champaign County;
11and
 
 
12    WHEREAS, Dick Green enjoyed exercising, watching
13collegiate and high school sports, family trips, playing golf
14(with three holes-in-one), cribbage, and going skiing; he
15especially loved attending the Drake Relays event in Des
16Moines; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dick Green was preceded in death by his parents;
18his brother; and his two sisters; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dick Green is survived by his wife; his three
20children, Karen (Jay) Oates, Ellen (Pat) O'Reilly, and Jim
21(Rose Chomiak) Green; his nine grandchildren; and his four

1nephews and their respective families; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4Richard "Dick" D. Green and extend our sincere condolences to
5his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
6further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Dick Green as an expression of our
9deepest sympathy.
