SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Bruce D. Knicley, who passed away on
4July 25, 2019 at the age of 84; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bruce Knicley was born to E.L. Knicley and Inez
6(Hunt) on March 27, 1935; he grew up in Hunt City; he attended
7Newton Community High School, where he was a member of the
8basketball and the track & field teams; he earned his Bachelor
9of Science in Education from Eastern Illinois University,
10where he was a collegiate pole vaulter and was a member of
11Sigma Pi Fraternity; he served overseas twice in the U.S. Air
12Force; he married in 1960; he earned his master's degree in
13Education; he moved to the Chicago area in 1966; he was a
14resident of Addison for over 20 years; he became a resident of
15the Beacon Hill Senior Independent Living Community in Lombard
16in 2012; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Bruce Knicley began his teaching career in
18Tuscola; after relocating to the Chicago area in 1966, he
19became dean of students at Oak Park and River Forest High
20School, where he truly enjoyed working with students and their
21families during his 25-year career; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Bruce Knicley was an avid golfer throughout his

1life, and he taught as a night school golf instructor at Triton
2College; after retiring in 1989, he worked for the golf
3courses in Oak Meadows and Maple Meadows to nurture his
4passion for the sport; he was often found working on his game
5on the courses in the Chicagoland area; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Bruce Knicley was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal
7fan, but fully supported all Chicago sports teams, including
8the Sox, Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Bruce Knicley is survived by his daughter, Andrea
10(Chris) Washington; his grandchildren, Lauren and Joel
11Washington; his brother, James (Mary) Knicley; his nephews,
12Mike (Jane) Knicley and Butch (Tammy) Knicley; his niece,
13Ellie (Jason) Wilson; and his many dear friends; therefore, be
14it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Bruce D. Knicley and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Bruce Knicley as an expression of
22our deepest sympathy.
