2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the deaths of Thomas Francis "Tom" Connelly, | ||||||
4 | Ph.D., who passed away on December 3, 2020, and Ann Louise | ||||||
5 | (Duffy) Connelly, who passed away on November 7, 2020; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Tom and Ann Connelly were married for 61 years; | ||||||
7 | and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Tom Connelly was born on the West Side of Chicago | ||||||
9 | to John and Ann (Rafter) Connelly; he was a long-time resident | ||||||
10 | of La Grange; he earned his bachelor's degree in Classical | ||||||
11 | Studies from Loyola University Chicago; he served in the U.S. | ||||||
12 | Navy in the Navy Submarine Force and was based in Hawaii; he | ||||||
13 | obtained his master's degree in Classics from the University | ||||||
14 | of Kentucky; he earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Education | ||||||
15 | Administration from Loyola University Chicago; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Tom Connelly worked for Chicago Public Schools | ||||||
17 | (CPS) his entire career; he began teaching Latin at South | ||||||
18 | Shore High School, where he served as the faculty advisor of | ||||||
19 | the award-winning Shoreline newspaper; after passing the | ||||||
20 | principal's exam, he worked in the CPS administration for the | ||||||
21 | remainder of his career; and

1 | WHEREAS, Tom Connelly was passionate about tutoring | ||||||
2 | students in Latin, from his own grandchildren and friends to | ||||||
3 | the undergraduate students at Ave Maria University in Naples, | ||||||
4 | Florida; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ann Connelly was born on the West Side of | ||||||
6 | Chicago; she was a long-time resident of La Grange; she | ||||||
7 | graduated from St. Xaxier University; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Ann Connelly was a registered nurse and worked as | ||||||
9 | a school nurse for Chicago Public Schools; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Ann Connelly especially enjoyed playing bridge | ||||||
11 | with her college friends from St. Xavier University; she | ||||||
12 | worked tirelessly for her family and at one point had 5 | ||||||
13 | children under the age of 4, with the oldest being 3 1/2 years | ||||||
14 | old; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Together, Tom and Ann Connelly enjoyed traveling | ||||||
16 | the world with each other and their many friends; they loved | ||||||
17 | doting on their grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they | ||||||
18 | were deeply committed to their faith, and that faith was | ||||||
19 | central to their love for one another; they will be missed; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Tom and Ann Connelly were preceded in death by | ||||||
21 | Tom's brother, Jack; his twin brother, Francis Thomas; his |

| |||||||
1 | sisters, Catherine and Winifred; Ann's brothers, James and | ||||||
2 | David; and her sister, Mary Spradlin; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Tom and Ann Connelly were the parents of Mary | ||||||
4 | (late Jerome) O'Rourke, Thomas (Amanda), Mark (Mary), Maureen | ||||||
5 | (Martin) O'Connor, Michael (Lisa), Timothy (Noreen), and Ann | ||||||
6 | Marie (John) Kavanagh; the grandparents of 23 grandchildren; | ||||||
7 | the great-grandparents of three great-grandchildren; the | ||||||
8 | brother and sister-in-law of Edward; and the loving caretakers | ||||||
9 | of their 4-legged companion, Jesse James; therefore, be it
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
12 | Thomas Francis "Tom" Connelly, Ph.D. and Ann Louise (Duffy) | ||||||
13 | Connelly and extend our sincere condolences to their family, | ||||||
14 | friends, and all who knew and loved them; and be it further
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the family of Tom and Ann Connelly as an | ||||||
17 | expression of our deepest sympathy.
