SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Richard L. "Dick" Kennedy of Moline,
4who passed away on December 14, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dick Kennedy was born to Richard W. and Geraldine
6Kennedy on November 9, 1935; he graduated from Rock Island
7High School in 1953 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where
8he served for three years in Korea and Japan at the end of the
9Korean War; he married Judy Benson on May 22, 1957; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dick Kennedy worked at Farmall as a machinist; he
11then began an apprenticeship as a plasterer and worked as a
12journeyman for 25 years; he completed his professional career
13as an elevator and escalator installer with Montgomery
14Elevator; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dick Kennedy was an avid sports enthusiast; he
16played fastpitch softball at a highly competitive level
17throughout the 60s and 70s and then, for many years, focused on
18coaching his children on their youth baseball and softball
19teams; he volunteered with many different organizations; he
20enjoyed cheering on his family and traveling all over the
21country to participate in the important events in their lives;
22he will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor and

1being a passionate husband, father, and grandfather; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Dick Kennedy was preceded in death by his
3parents; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dick Kennedy is survived by his wife of 63 years,
5Judy; his children, Teresa (Don) Kennedy-Hohenstein, Tim
6(Mary) Kennedy, Tom Kennedy, Tina (Cory) Kilcullen, and Tara
7(Joe) Appel; his grandchildren, Serena Hohenstein, Lydia
8Kennedy, Maggie Kennedy, Sam Kennedy, Coen Kilcullen, Gemma
9Kilcullen, Sadie Appel, and Luke Appel; and his twin sisters,
10Margaret Anderson and Marlowe Bogle; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Richard L. "Dick" Kennedy and extend our sincere condolences
14to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
15it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Dick Kennedy as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
